Poppy Cottage is a beautiful, stylish, spacious and peaceful one / two bedroom cottage set over three floors within the grounds of a former farm that was once owned by the local Monastery. In Medieval times, the Monks used the farm as a safe haven, seeking refuge from the atrocities of King Henry VIII. Today the farm welcomes holiday and short stay guests and the cottage itself is warm, inviting and fully equipped with everything guests should need for a relaxing stay whilst in the midst of glorious countryside.
The ample space in Poppy Cottage is pretty spectacular and immense thought has been put into its design and flow! The kitchen-diner on the ground floor exudes style and taste and is fully equipped with everything guests should need during their stay. Considerable thought has been put into what enhances a holiday / short stay and guests will be pleased to see that along with the usual oven, hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, there is also a washer-dryer and dishwasher. Why spend time washing up or hanging out clothes when there are walks to be had and places to see! The kitchen also comes fully stocked with basic condiments, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cleaning materials, tea-towels, laundry items and bin bags. All you need to bring are food and drink, clothes and toiletries and a passion for the countryside!
There is a shower room on the ground floor. This handy space boasts a large shower cubicle with power shower, a toilet and a sink.
The first floor of Poppy Cottage opens out into a huge lounge. This artfully decorated space contains comfy seating and a large Smart TV. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and all the usual Freeview channels are available to guests. There is also an Amazon Speaker that doubles as the Wifi router.
Two bedrooms on the top floor plus a bathroom with free-standing bath complete this cottage's layout. Guests have to walk through the first bedroom to get to the Master bedroom and the bathroom is off the Master. Currently bedroom one is set up as a dedicated workspace. In time, a bed will be added. The Master bedroom on the other hand has a sumptuous king sized bed and plenty of storage.
Towels and bed linen are provided for all lengths of stays. These are changed weekly for longer stays.
Wifi is available throughout the property free of charge. Heating and hot water are included in the fee.
Poppy Cottage is one of five rental dwellings within Highwood Farm. Of the five, Poppy Cottage is our newest addition to the Highwood family.
Currently we are marketing Poppy Cottage as a one / two bedroom property with just the one king bed. We will be adding a second bed in the Autumn of 2022. Please be aware of the bed set up when booking your stay and check with us if you think Poppy Cottage may not meet your needs.
Poppy Cottage does not have its own private outdoor space but guests do have use of the extensive lawns within the grounds of Highwood Farm. There is a small paved area to the front of Poppy Cottage where guests will find a table and 2 chairs perfect for that early morning cup of tea or that evening glass of wine.
Poppy Cottage is not suitable for pets nor children currently. It is also a non-smoking property.
Our rules are very simple...
- Please look after Poppy Cottage during your stay and leave it clean and tidy when you check out.
- Please let us know of any damages / accidents during your stay so that we have time to rectify things for the next guests.
- Please keep noise to a minimum after 11pm as we have other guests and tenants on site. Highwood Farm is also our home.
- Please no stag or hen parties and no events. We pride ourselves on being a peaceful, restful retreat and would like it to stay that way.
- Please no pets of any kind - that includes the pets of any visitors you may have.
- Please no candles, no smoking, no incense stick burning and no naked flames of any kind.
- Please try to adhere to our check out time of 10am. Cleaning the cottage to our very high standards takes time and late departures make changeovers fraught. Saying that, if a 10am check out is tricky, do ask if there is any flexibility.
The most important rule is to enjoy your stay in this idyllic setting.
Thank you for your understanding.
