Audreys Cottage, Hay-On-Wye

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 4

Take a small step back in time, drive down a deep woodland track and enjoy staying in this peaceful and pretty white washed stone 15th century cottage. It has great thick stone walls and oak beams, and is mentioned in Kilvert's Diary on his travels around Clyro and The Black Mountains; the cottage is set in a large but sloping grassy garden with a forest behind. From the side there are staggering views across the Wye Valley to The Black Mountains. This cottage is newly on our books and is only a couple of miles from Hay-on-Wye,the popular small market town famous for its second-hand book shops. This cottage really will be a "treasure of a find" for the right people; it feels far more remote than it really is. Comfortable and cosy with lots of books, lovely paintings and small pieces of sculpture collected over the years, this is a cottage much loved by the owners who, after forty years, now find it more difficult to spend so much time down in this very special spot.

Accommodation

Sleeps 4 - 3 bedrooms

The kitchen has a cream coal-fired Rayburn which helps warm the cottage in winter, an electric cooker, microwave, a fridge and a freezer, a dishwasher and a washing machine. A kitchen table and chairs in front of the window make it possible to take in the views, whatever the weather.

The sitting room with its great oak beams, comfortable sofas and chairs is set around a traditional wood burning stove and is a relaxing and peaceful place to enjoy the company of friends and family. There is a TV with freesat, DVD player, and also a CD player for music.

Up wooden stairs to three bedrooms:

Bedroom 1: The Master bedroom with a lovely double bed with a very attractive quilt but "mind your head" there is a low beam above the window on one side of the bed.
Bedroom 2: Is reached through the Master bedroom and has a single bed
Bedroom 3: A bedroom with a single bed

A surprisingly spacious bathroom: With a bath with a shower over and a hand basin.

There is also a separate toilet.

There is a delightful garden with lawns and shrubs - there is a deep dingle between the cottage and the forest with a stream running through - which in winter can become quite a rushing torrent when there is water running off The Begwyn Hills up behind the cottage.
