The Nordy House - Perfect Post-Lockdown Getaway, Wymondham

Norfolk. Sleeps up to 7

‘The Nordy House’ is the perfect 'jumping off' point for a Norfolk holiday, set up with the care and attention to detail of a 'home away from home'. Suited to adult-only and family trips, this characterful Victorian terrace will charm you with its quirky boutique offering, fabulous garden and mesmerising log burners. Despite its proximity to Wymondham town centre (0.4 miles) it is in a picturesque and peaceful setting, nestled into the countryside adjacent to Tolls Meadow (a lovely route to town). Most of Norfolk’s best attractions are also within day trip distance (see below).

The Nordy House was recently refurbished to a high standard and offers flexible accommodation options. A recent guest booking described us as "a 2020-fatigued-parent's dream destination" - we agree!

When we set up The Nordy House we aspired to give parents the relaxing break that eluded us as parents of young children (so much packing!). Equally we wanted something romantic and evocative of the weekends away we enjoyed as a couple. The Nordy House is therefore set up as both a romantic getaway, while being very family friendly (see the family-friendly section below for what you don't need to pack). What more could you want?

Recent feedback from guests had included:
‘it’s the perfect base from which to explore lovely Norfolk’
‘if you get the chance try the log burners – amazing’.
‘the house is just delightful’ and ‘Wymondham is a gorgeous town’
‘had everything a family would want; didn’t really need to pack anything’
‘every holiday house from now on has a lot to live up to in terms of being child friendly!’
‘the kitchen was very well appointed’ and ‘the garden is a real gem’
‘Kerry was super helpful and responded rapidly to all communications’

Please note - in peak times (e.g. school holidays, bank holiday weekends) the house can only be booked for a minimum of 4 paying guests, even if fewer guests are staying in practice. We can’t accept bookings priced for lower capacity during peak times but we are flexible outside of these times for smaller bookings. Our prices run off an algorithm, reflecting how busy bookings are. If prices are higher than you would like for the the dates you are looking at, do look at other dates as these can often be up to 50% less, depending on season and demand. Also, do consider staying for longer as we offer discounts for stays of 3, 5, 7 and 28 days. The only available beds downstairs are sofa beds. All bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs.

Living room – it is easy to relax in this room. There is a comfy sofa (bed), throws, a Smart TV and a range of books and DVDs. The stunning cylinder log burner provides a magnetic focal point in the colder months; in the summer its sparkling fairy lights provide a softer ambience.

Dining area/open plan ‘lounge’ – the dining area has a corner table with cosy seating for six adults. It overlooks the back garden with its picket fence, rose and trailing sweet peas. There is further living space alongside the dining nook and kitchen. The super comfy sofa (bed) and roaring log burner provide a lovely setting. The dresser contains games for adults and children alike (puzzles, games and toys up to about age 10).

Kitchen – the quirky kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to self-cater during your stay. This includes tea, coffee, cafetiere, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and a large spice rack full of useful herbs, spices and ingredients. There is a full height (equal split) fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, hob and double oven (gas hobb), a Miele washing machine and dishwasher, and serving hatch through to dining area. (A tumble drier is available upstairs). Please help yourself to fresh herbs from the pots by the picket fence outside the kitchen.

Bathroom - this room is decorated in a bold pink and green tropical theme. Enjoy the Egyptian cotton towels (bath sheets for adults). There is shower over the bath, a shelf unit to store your toiletries and a built in child’s toilet seat if required.

Bedroom 1 – this room has a sumptuous and bold colour scheme. This is completed by a tactile and visual elements - the indulgent 400 thread count Egyptian cottons sheets, ornate mirror, slate covered fireplace, candle sconces, feather pendant, and soft sheepskin rugs.

Bedroom 2 – this light and airy room can be set for adult or child use. The default set up is twin beds, but these can be turned into a super king size bed - perfect for couples travelling together and wanting two double beds, rather than a double and twin room. Adults can enjoy the usual wall hanging as a back drop to the beds. For children, the wall hanging can be drawn to reveal a charming hand painted tree – evocative of sleeping underneath the tree in Enid Blyton’s Enchanted Wood! 200 thread count sheets are used in this room.

Bedroom 3 –this is set up for children or an adult. The bunk cot can sleep 2 children from ages 0 to 6. The giant bean bag is perfect for family bedtime stories and a little library of family classics awaits. A high quality small single guest bed is also in the room (bedding available by liaison). This can sleep an older child, teenager, or an adult with ease. A condenser tumble drier is housed in the airing cupboard in this room.

Garden –tremendously long garden, suitable for adult relaxing or child-cavorting! Enjoy the bench opposite the apple tree, dine al fresco on the rustic reclaimed brick patio, or sunbathe on the lawn. There is a child’s picnic table to complement the patio table for four adults. Current pictures show penultimate stage of the garden renovation (shed replacement is being done asap so please bear with us with its ‘rustic’ look in the meantime). In the future there will be a vegetable patch at the very end of the garden (fenced off so you don't need to worry about children getting in unsupervised). If there are spare fruit or vegetables we will let you know so you can pick and enjoy these too.

Parking – there is good availability of on street parking.

Quality - we pride ourselves on offering good quality furnishings and fixtures throughout the house. We also appreciate a liberal dose of luxury so you will find brands such as Willow and Hall, Miele, Charlton and Jenrick, Designers Guild, Joseph Joseph, Robert Welch and Habitat in the property.

Family friendly - there is a stair gate at the top and bottom of the stairs and every upstairs window has a child lock fitted. The bathroom has an integrated child toilet seat and a step for accessing the toilet and basin. A Mothercare baby bath chair is also available on request. The kitchen cupboards have child locks fitted, square tipped knives for safety, and childrens' plates/bowls/cups/cutlery. There is also a chalk board and chalks to the side of the main worksurface as you come into the kitchen - great for keeping them entertained while you cook. The dining room has an Ikea high chair and insert, several bibs and a stylish but wipeable table cloth. The childrens' room has a very well stocked library with a range of family classics, a baby monitor, a night light, and speakers to plug an ipod into. Between this room, the dresser and the cupboard under the stairs there are a range of children's toys to play with including a mega blocks table, small mega blocks, dress up outfits, puzzles and general toys. The child’s picnic table outside is popular with small children. If the house was previously set up for an adult only booking you may need to help yourself to some of these items from the cupboards. We also have (very well used) Uppababy Vista in-line double pram which you can borrow if you dont want to bring yours and if it is still working well.

Located in Wymondham, this vacation home is in a rural area and near theme parks.
