Unique Self-Catering Cottage, Built In The 1500's, Comes With A Look-Out Tower, Wells-Next-The-Sea

Norfolk. Sleeps up to 9

This very unique, boutique self-catering cottage, built in the 1500s, comes with a spectacular look-out-tower that offers wonderful coastal views as far as the eye can see over Wells harbour. Perfect for those wanting a very special place in an exceptional location, just a minutes' walk to the harbour and in walking distance of the beach.

St Michael’s Cottage is a truly stunning 16th century flint and brick built former merchant’s house set over four floors. Full of character, it has a look-out tower at the top of the house on the fourth floor which affords beautiful views over East Fleet creek, the harbour, the marshes and sea beyond. With the telescope/binoculars supplied, this is a perfect space for daytime vistas to appreciate the superb coastal views and equally impressive for night-time stargazing. This beautiful cottage decorated in a neutral palette is set on a quiet no through road right in the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, on one of the narrow lanes that leads down to the quay, and comes with off-street parking for one car and its own sunny south-facing courtyard garden, with a barbecue seating area.

Step inside this enchanting cottage and you will find two steep Norfolk winder staircases on either side of the house, a sitting room with wood burning stove, four sumptuous bedrooms plus a shower room and two bathrooms. On the third floor you will find a television room which also doubles as a fifth bedroom and allows the accommodation to be increased to sleep 11 guests by making use of the sofa bed (although this is only recommended for children). A convivial kitchen/dining space on the ground floor provides the opportunity to enjoy good food and conversation, whilst reminiscing over the days’ events. The master bedroom is beautiful and built into the converted sail loft, which has a stunning heavily-beamed ceiling and exposed brickwork walls which gives a true sense of the history of the house. Now beautifully refurbished, St Michael’s Cottage offers relaxed but stylish living and is a unique, quirky holiday home full of character. Suitable for both families and friends, it is ideal for a short break or longer stay.

Additional Information
St Michael’s Cottage is one of Wells’ oldest buildings and as such, there are uneven floor levels and steps both within and outside the property. The staircases inside the property are Norfolk winder stairs which means, as with older character cottages, they are enclosed, steep, curved and narrow. We would advise that the house would not be suitable for the less agile. But it is a very enchanting cottage and those who stay will adore the unique character that it comes with.

Although this property is listed as dog-free, serious allergy sufferers should be aware that a dog may have visited the property.
