1 The Carriage House. Village Location. York 6m., York

North Yorkshire. Sleeps up to 10

Summary:
The apartment is within a stunning converted barn in the beautiful North Yorkshire village of Bilbrough. It has a large open plan, sitting, dining and kitchen area for relaxing and eating, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Plenty of walks in open countryside to be enjoyed as the village has four public footpaths. Only 6 miles into central York, 10 mins by car from the Designer Outlet village and 6 mins to the ark and ride for York. Easy access to A64/A1/M1.

The Space:
200 year old barn, originally a Carriage House, set in beautiful open countryside yet only two minutes from the A64 and six miles from York. Ideally located for York Races. Five minute drive from The Normans wedding venue and a ten minute drive from Woolas Barn wedding venue. 15 minutes from Hornington Manor and Priory Cottages.

The Carriage House is four separate apartments within the same building.

Apartment One is on the ground floor, Apartment Two is on the first floor and Studios 3A and 3B are on the second floor. There is one door to the building and then separate doors into each apartment/studio. There is one communal stairway. There are eight bedrooms in total, four in Apartment One, two in Apartment Two and one in each studio.

Please note that one of the bedrooms in Apartment One is a bunk bed room, more suitable for children. The second double bedroom is situated off the bunk bed room, separated by a curtain and the twin room is above this double room, accessed via a spiral staircase and therefore not suitable for the elderly or infirm. This makes the space perfect for families. Every apartment can sleep extra guests using either sofa beds or Jay-Be beds.

If you have booked both apartments and both studios then you have use of our Hygge Room which is the one in the photos with the donkey picture! This room can seat 14/18 people and is a few paces from the main door to The Carriage House. The use of this is included in the price you pay when you book both apartments and both studios. We also have a garden which is about 50m from The Carriage House. This is free to use for all guests.

A bath towel and a hand towel per guest is provided.

Please note also that The Carriage House is over 200 years old so it is not a modern building! We have retained as many original features as possible. Sound can travel between the apartments; we clearly state this and ask for 'quiet hours' in our house rules. If you are looking for accommodation that is a sound-proof box then this might not be for you. You might hear footsteps from above and/or below and possibly the sound of a TV. Because of this, we provide earplugs for guests who are light sleepers. That said, the only noise you will hear externally is the sound of owls and foxes and possibly a tractor. There are no rowdy pub/club goers, very (very!) little traffic and no sirens or music.

***********************OUTSIDE SPACE - RAWS***************************

During 2021 we developed our outside space. The new area - the Relaxation And Wellness Space (RAWS) has a five/six seater Aspen hot tub, a lounging area and a dining area with gas bbq - all under wooden gazebos. There is also a sun terrace, a bar area, a studio for yoga and meditation and a large decked area. This new facility is available to book when you book the accommodation. Please note that there is an additional charge for use of this area - please ask for prices. If you would like to book the Hot Tub only please note that a minimum charge of £50 applies as the tub has to be emptied, cleaned, refilled and reheated between guests.

Guest Access:
Apartment One is a private apartment but the entrance hallway of the building is shared with Apartment Two and Studios 3A and 3B.

The Neighborhood:
Nearest pubs are The Nag's Head in Askham Bryan and The White Swan in Wighill.

Village park (enclosed) with play equipment. Lots of good walks from the doorstep. We can provide secure storage for bicycles.

For late arrivals, we are three minutes by car from a petrol station with all essentials, plus a McDonald’s and Starbucks.

Getting Around:
There is some parking at the property. There is one village bus into York but the Coastliner operates every half an hour to either Leeds or York and the stop for this is only a 10 minute walk.

The best way to see York is to use the Park and Ride Service at Askham Bar (a six minute drive from The Carriage House).

The village bus timetable can be found by searching for York Pullman Bus Number 37.

The Coastliner bus timetable can be found by searching for York Bus Coastliner. You need the 840 and 843 Leeds/York service.

Other Things to Note:
We provide tea, coffee, sugar, a pint of milk, a loaf of bread, butter, jam, cereals and eggs - all free of charge. As this is a self-catering property we do not cook or serve your breakfast. The breakfast pack is designed to get you through your first morning.

There is washing up liquid, tin foil, cooking oil, salt, pepper, kitchen roll and a couple of dishwasher tablets and washing machine tablets. There is hand soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. A bath towel and a hand towel per person are provided, as is all bed linen.

We also have a selection of provisions in the apartment for you to purchase such as wine, beer and crisps. This operates on an honesty system and we ask that you leave the money for any items in the box provided.

Interaction with Guests:
We live in a nearby property so are available to guests if needed. Also available by telephone or text message until 10pm. Emergency number supplied for after 10pm.

Located in York, this apartment is in a rural area. Holgate Windmill and Bar Convent Museum are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Pike Hills Golf Club and Bishopthorpe Tennis Club.
