Summary:
The Observatory is a truly breath-taking holiday home. With a magnificent viewing tower showcasing unbridled views of Saltburn and the coast, it is a property like no other.
The apartment is set within The Zetland - a beautiful Grade II listed building which originally opened in 1863. It was one of the world’s first railway hotels with its own private platform and you can still see the original canopy and railway buffer today. Described as ‘the jewel in the crown’, the building is packed with history and character.
Sleeping up to 4 guests, The Observatory is the perfect place for family breaks or getaways with friends.
The Space:
Upon entering The Observatory, you will be captivated by the bright and airy feel which flows throughout the apartment. Head left along the hallway and you’ll find the large, open plan living / dining area.
The living area features comfy, plush sofas and a Smart TV so you’ll feel at home in no time at all. The dining area is perfect for entertaining friends and enjoying family meals. You’ll notice amazing artwork on the walls – from bright painted pieces to subtle photographs of the local area. In the summer months, you can open the balcony doors and let the warm air drift in. Out on the balcony, you’ll be wowed by the views. It’s the ideal place to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the world go by.
Head to the incredible viewing tower and you’ve found the haven. Tall floor to ceiling arched windows curve around the tower and provide the best views. Watch as the waves lap the shore and the birds swoop over the cliffs in the distance.
Back down the stairs and past the living area, you’ll find the kitchen. With a microwave, oven, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, refrigerator and dishwasher – you’ll have everything you need for your stay.
The main bedroom is spacious and relaxing. Light streams in from the windows which are set within the quirky angles of the room. There is ample space for your belongings with built in wardrobes and a chest of drawers. To the left, you’ll find the en-suite bathroom which features a walk-in shower.
The second bedroom features the same unique angles, with a large window facing you as you enter the room. The neutral colour scheme is relaxing, and you’ll enjoy your sleep in the comfy double bed.
The main bathroom has a rustic feel with muted green panelling and natural colours. The large space features a deep bath so you can enjoy a long, relaxing soak in the tub during your stay.

The Neighborhood:
The Observatory is located in the charming Victorian Spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the North Yorkshire coast.
Located in the heart of the town, the apartment is only a short walk from the beach and lower promenade. Take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The long sandy shores are overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts and high cliffs tower in the distance.
The Observatory is close to all local amenities including independent shops, bars, restaurants and bistros.
Saltburn has plenty of beautiful walks too. The Valley Gardens are a maze of paths and tracks which wind through the flowers and woodland. If you want to explore further, The Cleveland Way National Trail is over 100 miles long and the lovely Saltburn is featured. If you fancy a 17.5 mile jaunt, start at Saltburn and walk your way to Sandsend. This walk is a great way to explore the North Yorkshire coastline and the views are beautiful!
Getting Around:
The Observatory is within walking distance of all that Saltburn has to offer and within 30 minutes’ drive time of Staithes, Whitby, Middlesbrough and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Saltburn Train Station is a short walk away and has routes to Longbeck, Redcar, Middlesbrough and Darlington with connecting trains to Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester and London.
There are plenty of bus routes throughout Saltburn. Hop on the Arriva North East route and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby. The Moorsbus route has drop offs at Newton Under Roseberry, Great Ayton, Stokesley and Helmsley.
