The Pig Cottage offers its guests balance, from the cosy character features that draw you inwards towards the warm glow of a wood burning fire, to the vast patio doors that frame an expanse of beautiful patchwork countryside. Whether you are after a quiet holiday reading books and playing games, or an adventure of countryside walking and seaside escapades, this cottage offers it all.
Located in Whitby, The Pig Cottage is not far from the sandy beaches, iconic pier and bustling amusement arcades. Set away from the busier tourist spots, the cottage itself offers peace and quiet, with plenty of space for a group of six guests to rest, relax and enjoy quality time together. Nestled in amongst luscious plants and flowers, as you approach, the property looks like a quaint country cottage, yet as you open the front door the main entertaining space stretches out in front of you, capturing the views and creating a modern, social twist to the character filled property.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to prepare delicious meals taking inspiration from the coast’s brilliant restaurants and cafes. There is a large dining table for everyone to gather around and a cosy sofa facing out towards the views, so everyone can be in one space, enjoying the company even when occupied with different things. Tucked around the corner there is a more formal living room with several cosy sofas and an open fireplace, perfect for evenings in, playing games and reading books.
The cottage’s three bedrooms all boast king-size beds, with en-suite bathrooms for your privacy. Designed in the same laid-back, homely style as the rest of the property, you can truly settle in and make yourself at home.
Outside, the gardens and terrace offer idyllic spaces to enjoy this quintessential area of Northern England. There is a modern terrace with glass balustrades and a dining table, perfect for outdoor dining and cocktails taking full advantage of the stunning views. Tucked away in the garden you will find more intimate seating areas, furnished with benches, and surrounded by flower beds, perfect for enjoying the tranquillity of the area.

There is of course more to Whitby than meets the eye with its fascinating history! Known for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Captain Cook, there are endless stories and histories to explore. Quirky narrow cobbled streets, independent shops and the majestic ruins of Whitby Abbey overlooking the town all speak to the old Gothic culture. We would recommend the Captain James Cook memorial which sits on West Cliff where he is looking out to sea and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum where you can learn all about his fascinating life and time in Whitby.
Whitby is hilly, so we recommend some comfortable walking shoes! There are 199 steps up to the abbey and St Mary’s Church. Dotted around the winding, hilly streets, Whitby plays host to a delicious array of restaurants including the famous Magpie Cafe. The Magpie Cafe is quirky with numerous levels and offers many seafood dishes as well as the traditional fish and chips. For some more traditional seaside fun, there is crabbing, sandcastle building, walks along the pier and plenty of amusement arcades to enjoy. Just along from the main town and harbour you will find the lovely sandy beaches of Sandsend and Runswick Bay.
Just six miles south of Whitby and a short drive away from the cottage, you will find the picturesque old fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. It is beautiful with a sandy beach, rock pools, ancient fossils, narrow, twisting, cobbled streets and lots of alleyways. It is easy to imagine the fishermen and smugglers walking the streets hundreds of years ago. It is quite easy to get lost in the little warren of lanes lined with old fisherman’s cottages, most of which have now been renovated. The village is bustling with a good range of cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Again, the hill into the village is steep, so make sure you have some good shoes on!
