The Richmondshire Museum filled with artefacts and memorabilia, The Station, a restaurant/bar with gallery, heritage centre and cinema set in an old station, perfect for a romantic evening. Be sure to make a stop at Richmond Castle, which dates back to 1071, where you can take in the exceptional views over the dales and get involved with an interactive history exhibition. Just a short drive away is the charming town of Leyburn, where you will find a wide variety of independent shops, cafes and pubs to suit all tastes and budgets. Walkers will delight at the Leyburn Shawl, which offers fantastic views over the vibrant Wensleydale countryside, and as legend has it, is supposed to be the spot where Mary Queen of Scots dropped her shawl after she escaped from Bolton Castle. Take the scenic drive to Barnard Castle, where you can explore the remarkable Bowes Museum which is home to a vast collection of relics, art and antiques, enjoy a walk through the lush Deepdale Nature Reserve, or delve into history at the ruins of the once imposing Barnard Castle with its arched 16th-century bridge.
