The harbour area is home to a small fishing fleet where boat trips can be taken to see Coquet Island. The popular Sunday market on the harbour attracts locals and visitors selling everything you can think of, including a fresh meat and fish stand. Dotted along the side of the harbour are some small restaurants and cafés; some sell seafood and with outdoor seating, you can sit and watch the boats and the activity along the front. A selection of small pods are home to local businesses offering foods and souvenirs and where you can support local tradespeople. The small town has a nice selection of shops as well as plenty of cafés and amenities right on the doorstep. If you like a walk, Warkworth is only 2 miles and easily reached via a gentle stroll along the estuary; with its castle sat at the top of the hill and little bespoke shops, cafés and friendly pubs, it is a lovely place for a lunch or evening meal. Nearby Alnwick is a 15-minute drive and home to the Duke of Northumberland who resides in the famous castle used for some scenes in the Harry Potter films, with cobbled streets and steeped in history it’s a wonderful day out for all ages.
Further up the coast are the popular villages of Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh and of course Holy Island, home to the Lindisfarne Gospels where walkers still come as part of the St.Cuthbert’s Walk. This stretch of Heritage Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has miles of golden unspoilt beaches, rugged coastline and dunes to explore. The whole county is easy to reach from this holiday home so exploring is easy, with plenty of visitor attractions for all ages nearby Lime Lodge is an ideal place to make your base whilst discovering the many delights that Northumberland has to offer. There are also two pubs close by.
