The photos are one thing, but actually arriving at Longa House is an elevated experience. Get ready for your expectations to be surpassed. Standing on the deck looking out, sitting in the living room by the woodburner, or gazing out from the mezzanine viewing lounge, time and time again you’ll be taken aback by how awesome this setting is. The views are constantly changing as weather systems sweep past from the Atlantic beyond.
You won’t want to leave Longa House, but we urge you to get out exploring the amazing local area. Some of the best scenery and landscapes in Europe are on the doorstep of Longa House. On the North Coast 500 route, Gairloch itself is worth spending some time in. Close by is a the trip north to the lighthouse on the edge of Loch Ewe, base for the north atlantic fleet in the second world war with many historical remnants. South, along the coast to the sheltered harbour of Badachro and beyond to the glorious Redpoint Beach where What We Did on Our Holiday was filmed. A little further afield you must tour the roads to Torridon, past the magnificent Torridon mountain range, Applecross, with the steepest climb in the UK, and north to Ullapool and beyond to Assynt. There are hills to walk and mountains to climb, as well as castles to find and beaches to comb. This is a nature lover’s paradise. Sheep and cattle roam freely; bird-life is abundant, gannets diving in the loch and white tailed eagles in the hills; otters and pine martens can be spotted if you are lucky and a great variety of cetaceans with dolphins often in the loch and minke whales further out. Boat trips on the loch fishing and bird spotting, including to the famed bird colony on the Shiant Islands.
After days out exploring you’ll be looking forward to returning to Longa House, and not just for the location and views. The accommodation itself is finished to a great standard.
When you pull up at the house there’s parking for six cars and you’ll likely enter through the back door which goes into the brilliant drying and laundry room. Along a corridor, there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Emerging from this area, you really experience the power of Longa House, the open-plan kitchen/dining room leads to the lower living room that juts out towards the sea and enjoys views all around with its floor to vaulted ceiling glass windows. You’ll gravitate to this living room, sit by the fire and gaze to the views whatever the sea state and weather.
