The castle is open all-year-round and hosts a variety of events, including food, art, literature and outdoor theatre, while just below the castle you will find Millennium Green, a riverside green with a wonderful café. Be sure to catch a street market, which have been taking place in the main square since the 12th century, nowadays you will find over 40 stalls selling fresh produce, books, local crafts and more, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with specialist Craft or Antique & Flea markets on most Thursdays and Sundays. Visit the nearby Whitcliffe Common Nature Reserve and enjoy scenic walking trails, and head into the Shropshire Hills for more incredible walks amidst rolling hills and charming villages. Here, you can see Church Stretton, which was once nicknamed Little Switzerland for its fantastic landscape, where you can enjoy walking the heath and moorland of Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, as well as Rectory Wood country park and Ragleth Hill nature preserve. Head to Bishop's Castle, close to the England/Wales border, to visit the fascinating House on Crutches Museum and from here, you can cross the border into Mid Wales to explore its pretty countryside.
