Paddock Barn, Bridgnorth: A Modern Converted Barn, Bridgnorth

Shropshire. Sleeps up to 5

Paddock Barn is a delightfully renovated barn conversion with a contemporary twist located on the very edge of Astley Abbotts, a quiet and pretty village 1.5 miles from Bridgnorth High Town. Although a detached property, Paddock Barn is adjacent to 3 other barn conversions, with every window enjoying gorgeous views across Shropshire.
Bridgnorth is an unspoilt South Shropshire Market Town. It was once one of the busiest river ports in Europe, but now it’s stretch of the River Severn is clear, unpolluted and is a quiet haven for anglers, walkers and wildlife. In addition to the well-trodden paths alongside the Severn, the local countryside is crisscrossed with footpaths and bridleways giving keen walkers a multitude of options for experiencing the great outdoors. Bridgnorth is well placed for access to other great walking, such as Brown Clee Hill, Clee Hill, Wenlock Edge, the Caradoc, The Lawley and the Long Mynd.
Cyclists are well catered for too; for mountain bikers there are many bridleways locally providing easy circular routes for exploring, and also giving access to Brown Clee Hill, and the Long Mynd for those more accomplished on the knobbly tyre. National Cycle Route 45 passes right by and you can be on it in less than 15 minutes from Paddock Barn. If you prefer road cycling this area of South Shropshire not only will give you miles and miles of challenging terrain to pit yourself against, but rewards you with quiet roads and great views around nearly every corner.
The National Trust has several properties nearby, Dudmaston Hall, Benthall Hall, Kinver Edge & The Rock Houses, Wilderhope Manor and Wightwick Manor are all a short drive, with other properties such as Attingham Park, Knowles Mill and Moseley Old Hall slightly further, but still easily accessible in a day.
The town boasts a bustling street market on Fridays and Saturdays which complements the many shops selling excellent local produce. There 3 high quality butchers in Bridgnorth selling excellent produce from Shropshire farmland, and another, much lauded butcher, A Ryan & Sons, can be found in Much Wenlock a short drive away. Be prepared to queue at Ryans though, people travel from much further afield than Bridgnorth for the excellent and reasonably priced meat, pies, quiches and award-winning sausages.
There are many small, but well-established breweries operating within a 25-mile radius of Bridgnorth, and fortunately the 22 Bridgnorth pubs provide ample opportunity to try out most of them.
There is a packed calendar of town events to keep everyone on their toes. An Annual Vintage Tractor rally (we are in farming central after all!), a town Easter Egg hunt (Easter only!) a hand made market every Sunday, a Springtime Jazz festival (if Jazz is your thing then The Black Boy has a monthly Jazz night on a Sunday), a sponsored walk on late May Bank Holiday (not the feint hearted – it’s 22 miles and over some “more than undulating” terrain), The Town Carnival in June, a music and arts festival with venues around the town hosting multiple events over the August Bank holiday. Irregular continental markets throughout the year. And not forgetting an annual 10k run and a 100 mile cycle sportive.
Paddock Barn is 7 miles away from the Heritage site of Ironbridge. A beautiful town, packed with coffee houses, pubs and restaurants, its namesake bridge occupying the central spot, Ironbridge hosts 10 museums. From Blists hill Victorian Town via Enginuity to the Tar Tunnel and Pipeworks; do them one at a time, or buy a passport to all of them – you might need more than a week at Paddock Barn for that though!

The main living space is spacious and open plan, with a generous vaulted ceiling over the lounge space. A highly specified kitchen includes white granite work top & breakfast bar, and American style fridge freezer with water dispenser and ice maker. All other appliances are integrated and include a steam oven and a proofing/warming drawer for enthusiastic bread makers.
The comfy lounge area is furnished to a high standard with leather and Harris Tweed sofas and chairs. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video is available on the smart TV with a Sonos Play Bar. A free-standing gas powered “woodburner” provides immediate heat to top up the central heating in the chillier months.
Downstairs bedroom with a Kingsize bed. This is a zip link bed that can be separated into 2 singles equipped with Sonos and adjacent to the wetroom, with large overhead shower.
Stairs lead to a single bedroom and a second bathroom with a freestanding bath and access to the glorious views across working farmland.
A second set of stairs from the lounge lead up to a Kingsize bedroom, again with Sonos and the same great views.
We know that when you are away, more than ever, you want a great nights sleep, so we have installed Somnus beds in all rooms (mattress in the single) - and boy are they comfortable!
The garden has been newly landscaped in March 2018, and includes a crazy paved patio with BBQ, private parking for two cars, and a deck area all of which give you an immediate and intimate connection to the surrounding countryside.

Located in Bridgnorth, this vacation home is in a rural area. Daniels Mill and Bridgnorth Station are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Severn Valley Country Park and Shropshire Hills. Enginuity and Rays Farm Country Matters are also worth visiting. Fishing offers a great chance to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with cycling, mountain biking, and horse riding nearby.
