Bishpool Farm Cottages - The Granary, Spaxton

Somerset. Sleeps up to 3

This property has been sympathetically and lovingly converted, making it an ideal countryside retreat for couples or families wishing to holiday together whilst enjoying their own space. Set on a working farm with horses, it also enjoys a superb elevated location in the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and are surrounded by glorious rolling hills, countryside and meadows in an idyllic and peaceful setting.
The Granary is an attractive terraced property offering much light and space, with high vaulted ceilings and attractive modern comfortable furnishings. It has been carefully co-ordinated to a very high standard. All of the rooms have been tastefully furnished using a mixture of antique and modern furniture and artefacts, as well as thoughtful personal touches.

There is a myriad of footpaths and bridleways close by, ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The owner welcomes guests who may wish to bring their own horse (by prior arrangement), and paddocks and stables are available on-site. The properties also benefit from the use of a separate shared games barn with snooker and table tennis, and an outside seating and barbecue area.

The Quantocks are known for the poets such as Coleridge and Wordsworth, but the area is mainly known, however, for its brilliant walks. For keen amblers, there are pubs and cafés to walk to, and a short drive away are the nearby village shop and pubs, some of which offer a varied menu using locally sourced produce. Just 11 miles away is the beach at East Quantoxhead, renowned for its fossil hunting, whilst Bishops Lydeard nearby is home to a working water mill and a blacksmith’s shop. Taunton, with its shopping, restaurants and leisure facilities, is about 8 miles. Other places to visit within an hour’s drive include one of the UK’s most dramatic natural features, Cheddar Gorge and Caves, and Wookey Hole, which has spectacular showcaves. Picturesque Dunster, with its castle, is a lovely place to visit, as is Kilve beach near Watchet, which is great for fossil hunting. Be sure to visit The Valley of the Rocks, a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast about half a mile from Lynton, and famous for its geology, view and herd of goats! The coastal cliffs are some of the highest in Britain and provide some challenging walks for climbing and walking enthusiasts. The cathedral city of Wells and its Bishops Palace are also worth a visit, or why not take a walk up to the top of the renowned Glastonbury Tor, which has amazing views over the county? You can also enjoy a walk around the abbey, the legendary burial place of King Arthur. The Yeovilton Fleet Air Museum and The Haynes Motor Museum also make for a great day out, as well as Minehead with seaside entertainment, The Exmoor National Park and West Somerset Steam Railway. Beach 10½ miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
