Region: The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Town: The eight thermal springs in Buxton are a constant 28 degrees Celsius, and this temperature is what initially drew the Romans to the area. However, the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and constructed during the 18th and 19th centuries under the patronage of succeeding Dukes of Devonshire. This includes the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens, and The Opera House. Visitors can still appreciate these spectacular structures and grounds today, in addition to the Opera House's extensive schedule and yearly festivals of music and the arts. A variety of charming towns and villages are scattered throughout, including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale, and there is superb walking nearby with rocky peaks to the north and pleasant slopes and dales to the south. The magnificent homes of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are close by and must be seen if visiting this region. a fantastic launching point for exploring the Peak District.
