❤ The Barns at High Wood Farm ❤

Outstandingly stylish five double bedroom agricultural hay barn and stables conversion with plenty of natural light. The Barns @ High Wood Farm are beautifully and simply decorated. We are set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on a gorgeous leafy farm only 8 minutes from the well known seaside town of Southwold.

Sadly we cannot accept any pets as we have livestock on the farm.

The space

The Barns @ High Wood Farm offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Situated on a quiet country lane tucked away from prying eyes, this five bedroom, five bathroom little slice of paradise means you can relax and recharge your batteries whilst enjoying some stunning local countryside. The popular and picturesque seaside town of Southwold is a mere eight minutes away by car or if you fancy it, a 15 to 20 minute bike ride. Beautifully decorated with all your comforts in mind, this bijou gem sits in its own private decked courtyard with far reaching views to the lake and surrounding fields where you can sit out and enjoy the fresh country air.

The Barns offer privacy and are not overlooked by others. The decor is modern Scandinavian and as such it is full of light and warmth. The beds are super comfortable and the en-suite bathrooms offer baths or showers (or both!) **I will note here that the Barns are on a septic tank, not mains, therefore only pee, poo and paper in the loos please. Blockages are messy and unpleasant for everyone** There are hanging spaces for your clothes and we provide hairdryers.

There are two sitting areas - one a more formal living space with two large sofas and some armchairs with french doors opening onto the courtyard and the other is more of a snug with a lounging sofa and a bean bag. There are two smart TVs. We provide some books, games, packs of cards and local maps. There is a breakfast bar with two stools to enjoy your breakfast at. The kitchen is fully equipped with a toaster, kettle, oven/microwave combo, two dishwashers and two fridge/freezers. We provide a Nespresso machine as well as cafetieres. We have tried hard to make it a little home from home but if you are missing anything essential please just let us know and we will do our utmost to help. The outside stone patio and other decking area is a lovely space to sit out in the sun. In the evenings the outside lights light up the brick courtyard showing the original farm buildings in all their glory.

Given that we do live on a farm, there are animals about. We have two farm dogs -Jarvis and Woody; they are very friendly and might come and say hello, and some beef cattle who may or may not be in view depending on which field they are grazing. My two grey horses, Pinky and Gambie are around as well as our two pygmy goats Boots (the boy) and Clogs (the girl). We also have bees, insects and birds - we live in a diverse little community and we enjoy the odd noises and smells that sometimes come with living in the countryside. On the whole, it is a beautiful and lovely place to stay. It is very quiet and a great place to come back to at the end of a busy day for a glass of wine/beer or gin and a restful nights sleep.

Many of our guests book our space to celebrate lifes little milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, family get togethers or inter-generational holidays. Due to the layout of the bedrooms, the space is roughly split into two areas with 3 bedrooms at one end and 2 bedrooms at the other giving people plenty of room to move about in. The large kitchen seats 10 comfortably which is perfect for big family meals and having the snug next to the kitchen means that the little ones are never far from the mummies and daddies prepping the next delicious meal!

The outside area is very safe, fully enclosed to stop little ones wandering too far. The cart lodge in the outer parking area has 3 bays which you can either to choose to park in or use as an outside kick-a-ball-about space. The field in front of the house has visitors occasionally - maybe our herd of Red Poll cattle or maybe one or two horses. They are very friendly but we do ask that you do not go into the field or feed them. They have plenty of grass to munch on.

There are several footpaths leading from the property if you walk to the bottom of the drive. Some intrepid guests have used the footpaths to walk all the way to Walberswick and beyond. 10 minutes walk one way will lead you to Reydon Woods where in the spring time, bluebells abound, and is a fabulous place to den build. 15 minutes walk the other way will lead you to our local recreational ground where there is a footy pitch, swings and exercise equipment. If you need any help with getting around or seeing things, just shout. We are long time residents of this area of Suffolk and know most places to visit or see.

There are local riding stables approx 15 minutes drive away - a great place for the youngsters to try their hand at ponies. The local swimming pools are a bit further afield. We have a lido in Beccles, and two other pools, one in Lowestoft and the other in Bungay.

If you are a keen cyclist, we are bang on Route 31 which goes from Southwold to Beccles along all the back lanes. There are fishing lakes about 5 minutes up the road by car near Wrentham. There is a lovely golf course at Southwold and plenty of opportunities to sail, canoe, ramble, run, cycle, windsurf or surf. The beach at Southwold is absolutely perfect for all ages - miles of sandy stuff with a bit of shingle and cute little cafes for the odd icecream or cup of tea.

Just a note to say that as the property is on a farm with livestock, we cannot accept any dogs. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
