There is a lovely shopping area and a great street called Ocean Road, famed for its vast choice of Indian restaurants. The seafront is the setting for many free events with live music concerts and brass bands. South Shields is famed for its finishing line in the Great North Run.
Nearby, Marsden Grotto is built into a rock with a pub and is a quirky place to visit. Bede’s World and Souter lighthouse, as well as the Roman Fort, are all on the doorstep. Travel through the Tyne Tunnel and out into Northumberland for glorious days out with miles of beaches and castles, or head over to Hadrian’s Wall or the National Park. There is a metro station just a 4-minute walk from the property. Beach 1½ miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 800 yards.
