Thakeham is a small quintessential British village, its name meaning ‘thatched homestead’ and used to actually be only one main street called ‘The Street’. Here you will find your local pub ‘The White Lion’ and church. The nearest large town to you is the lovely Storrington only a few minutes’ drive away. Storrington is a buzz of local cafes, restaurants and independent stores; you can easily waste away hours in the day taking in what the local stores have to offer. Storrington Museum is well worth a look as is nearby Parham Elizabethan House and Gardens.

Nearby towns and villages worth visiting are Haslemere, Pulborough and Arundel. Filled with independent stores, restaurants, antiques shops and markets this old town really does shine out in the local area. The cobbled streets of Arundel are riddled with history not to mention the enormous Castle watching over the town and grand gothic cathedral at the top of the hill running through the high street.

If you like what you see in Arundel you will definitely want to visit The Cathedral City of Chichester. Chichester offers a vast array of high street shops and restaurants, live theatre and two cinemas. Brighton and Portsmouth are easily accessible via the excellent train routes. Here you can explore the famous Spinnaker tower, old 'Spice Island' dockyards and from there you can even make your way to the Isle of White with a ticket to Ryde, by ferry, catamaran or hovercraft!

Goodwood is also just to the south and is the venue for two of the most famous sporting events in the U.K. - the Goodwood Revival and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, attracting visitors from all over the world.

The nearest train station to The Old Stables is only 10 minutes away Billingshurst which goes straight to Gatwick in 20 minutes and London Victoria in an hour.

This cottage is located in Pulborough. West Sussex Golf Club and Stopham Vineyard are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore South Downs National Park and Pulborough Brooks. Looking to enjoy an event or a game while in town? See what's happening at Lancing FC or Hickstead All England Jumping Course.
