ABOUT THE BARN
Cleeves House Barn is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) just 2 hours from London and a short walk down the hill to the award winning Horseshoe pub! The Barn is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for privacy, peace and tranquillity. It’s a wonderful setting for a romantic getaway, family holiday, walking and cycling in glorious countryside, or simply a memorable place to relax and unwind.
The Barn is a lovely peaceful and private space, surrounded by spectacular views. It's totally self contained and separate to our house which is across the courtyard. We have excellent internet speeds of 56mbps download and 5.6 mbps upload.

We live on site but we leave you alone and totally respect your privacy unless you need us. If you do, we are very happy to help out with anything and to ensure your stay is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We have no neighbours so you can make as much noise as you like.

The Barn allows you very flexible accommodation. So it can work perfectly for 2 for a romantic and relaxing break as well as for two couples wanting to have some time away from it all together, or for 4 friends or for a family of up to 5 (with 2 adults, 3 children and we have a travel cot and high chair too if needed). The Barn has been recently refurbished to the highest standard and you’ll find everything you need for a really comfortable break.

There are plenty of local walks and cycle rides to suit all levels of fitness, and you can enjoy exploring some of the prettiest villages and scenery in the south west of England. Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, Bath, Longleat Safari Park, Corfe Castle, the New Forest National Park and Dorset’s stunning Jurassic coast are just a few of the many places of interest nearby. I provide you with an information folder with lots of local information as well as ordnance survey maps which you are welcome to borrow and some suggested local walks you may enjoy.

The village and local amenities.
Ebbesbourne Wake is mentioned in the Domesday Book and lies 12 miles southwest of Salisbury. It's one of the prettiest villages in the Chalke Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and makes a perfect base for exploring the nearby Dorset coastline, shooting, fishing, walking, cycling, and golf (Rushmore golf course is 15 minutes drive away, and The Open qualifying course, Remedy Oak, is a 25 minute drive).

Near the head of the River Ebble valley, there is the Grade II* listed church of St John the Baptist that has been at the centre of the village since the 15th century.

The Telegraph described the renowned
HORSESHOE PUB as one of the best-kept secrets in the country and it was Alastair Sawday’s winner of the UK’s ‘Most authentic pub’. The landlord Tony and his wife Pat offer a warm welcome, excellent beers from the barrel and good home-cooked food. It’s a pleasant 20/25 minute walk downhill from the Barn or a quick 2 mins in the car.

There are many other fine country pubs and restaurants close by, such as The Museum, The King John, The Compasses, The Royal Oak, The Beckford Arms, 10 Castle Street, and The Forester where you will find delicious food, good wine and local ales.
The nearest village shop for provisions is in Sixpenny Handley (8 minute drive) has a fantastic general shop (open 7am - 8pm every day) as well as a fine village butchers, Chalke Valley Stores in Broad Chalke (an 8 minute drive) which stocks lots of home grown produce, fresh bread, small deli selection in their well-stocked fridges as well as other basics including newspapers. It is unsurprising that it was a recent winner of the Daily Telegraph/Countryside Alliance award for Best Village Shop/Post Office in the UK. Ludwell shop and post office (15 minute drive) is another award winner and has pretty much everything you could need. Ansty farm shop (15 minute drive) is another local gem and also has PYO soft fruits and berries , and at Tisbury (15 minute drive) you will find a small Co-op, butcher, fishmonger, green grocer, fabulous delicatessen, chemist, florist and coffee shop. All three villages have a post office. Tisbury also has a popular train station which is on the main line to London Waterloo. Salisbury is a 30-minute drive and Shaftesbury (made famous by the original Hovis advertisement filmed on Gold Hill) is 20 minutes away. Both towns have more extensive amenities.

The famous Chalke Valley History Festival is the largest festival dedicated to history in the UK and is a true celebration of the past, offering a unique blend of talks, discussions and debates alongside a vast living history through-the-ages encampment and stunning historic air show.
It takes place in late June/early July every year in the adjacent village of Broad Chalke an 8 minute drive away.
