The Retreat is situated, in the charming Shropshire village of Grindley Brook, a mile and a half northwest of the market town of Whitchurch. Whitchurch and Grindley Brook, on the Llangollen Canal, are surrounded by lots of great walking and sightseeing. The area is also part of the Llwybr Maelor Way and South Cheshire Way. Once part of the main farmhouse, offering a relaxing break for couples and friends.
The Retreat can accommodate up to four people. On the first floor you will find a double bedroom and separate bathroom, with a shower over the bath. Downstairs the lounge has a fabulous fireplace with multi fuel purpose stove to heat the whole annexe, along with flexible sleeping for up to two. With a large comfortable sofa to seat everyone, it’s a great place to relax after a long day out exploring. The kitchen offers everything you need for your stay, to make dining in a great option too. The owners have lovingly decorated the property to a good standard, accentuating the original features of the property. To the exterior, The Retreat offers a generous lawned private garden with outdoor furniture to relax and enjoy the view and smell the fresh country air.
Whitchurch itself is made up of lots of independent businesses, nice coffee shops, gift shops and lovely restaurants. At the top of High Street, St Alkmund’s Church is the most important building in Whitchurch. It is the largest Georgian church in the county outside Shrewsbury and is Grade 1 listed, a must see.
For the walking enthusiasts there is sunken green lane known locally as Fairy Glen, which converges with two other routes. The South Cheshire Way is a splendid 34-mile walk along canals and through wonderful Shropshire and Cheshire countryside from Grindley Brook to Mow Cop near Congleton. The Bishop Bennet Way, also 34 miles long, is a horse-riding route in southwest Cheshire which can also be used by walkers and cyclists.
Beeston Castle, Nantwich and Comber Mere are all within 20 minutes’ drive of The Retreat at Grindley Brook Farm. Chester, Crewe and Shrewsbury are less than 25 miles away providing lots of fun things to see and do depending on your tastes. The Retreat is the perfect place to stay for your next break away to explore this fantastic area of Shropshire.
