Just a mile from the village of Braemar and set back from the Linn of Dee road with a private drive, the cottage is nestled on the the banks of the beautiful River Dee within the the Linn of Dee. With outstanding views from almost every window, sit back, relax and watch the wildlife wander by; do not be surprised if stags pass through as you enjoy your early morning cup of tea or evening nightcap. You will certainly hear them at night! With Mar Lodge Estate across the river and beyond, known for its spectacular scenery, every view is an excellent one! Despite the rural position, the village of Braemar is only one mile away and an extremely pleasant walk should the fancy take you. Boasting a plethora of interesting gift shops, an art gallery, The renowned Fife Arms, a post office, an excellent butcher, a supermarket and the golf course. If fishing is on your list of holiday activities while staying at the cottage and you'd like to take advantage of your own stretch of river, fishing licences can also be obtained in the village. Alternatively, how about going on a safari - Braemar Highland Safaris run tours from the village and their knowledgeable guides will showcase the stunning local landscape at its very, very best while hopefully spotting local red deer, grouse, ptarmigan and even eagles! Ford Cottage is situated within the Cairngorms National Park and with spectacular scenery at every turn, walkers, hikers and climbers will not be disappointed with so much to explore on your doorstep. For the winter sport lovers Glenshee Ski Centre is only 15 miles away, lessons and equipment hire available, along with a restaurant.
Braemar Castle can be found a mile outside of Braemar, owned by the Farquharson clan it is open to the public in the summer months. Every year on the first Saturday of September, Braemar plays host to the Braemar Gathering, where you can watch traditional Highland games such as Tossing the Caber and Man of War, to the tune of many a bagpipe. Since 1848, The Gathering has been attended regularly by the reigning Monarch and members of the Royal Family. Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s holiday residence is just 15 miles away (and a beautiful drive) which is open to the public in the summer where you can explore the grounds, visit the royal exhibition, the coffee and gift shop.
