Bodlawen (meaning “happy house” in Welsh) is a comfortable, well equipped five bedroom holiday cottage for up to eight guests. Formerly the old post office for the little hamlet of Glasfryn, Conwy, it is situated very conveniently on the edge of the Snowdonia region with easy access to most of North Wales’s attractions.
The ground floor houses a comfortable living room with log burner, a modern kitchen and dining room with a utility room ideal for dog walkers. Also on the ground floor is a king size bedroom with en suite toilet and shower. Upstairs are a further four bedrooms, one king size, one small double and two single bedrooms. A travel cot is available, together with a high chair if required. Please note that access to one of the single bedrooms is via the small double, ideal for parents with a young child. Also on the first floor is a bathroom with toilet, and a separate WC.
There are three parking spaces, and because the house is directly on the A5, guests with dogs or young children are advised to use the rear entrance to avoid the traffic.
Nearby attractions are a Championship Karting track (1 mile), Llyn Alwen reservoir, ideal for dog walkers (approx 4 miles) and the larger reservoir Llyn Brenig, with visitor centre, children’s play area, restaurant and nature reserve, with boats and bicycles available for hire (approx 5 miles). The highest pub in Wales, the 400 year old Sportsman’s Arms, is roughly 9 miles away.
The cottage is also convenient for visiting Betws y Coed (approx 9 miles), waterfalls, zip wires (eg the Fforest Coaster approx 11 miles), steam railways (Bala approx 13 miles, Ffestiniog approx 19 miles and Llangollen approx 20 miles), the seaside at Llandudno or Harlech and castles such as Conwy or Criccieth. Porthmadog and Portmeirion are within easy reach by car. The new T10 bus service can take you on a beautiful ride through Snowdonia to Bangor if you don’t want the hassle of driving, and connects at Betws y Coed with the Conwy Valley train to Llandudno. Snowdon itself is only 38 minutes by car (approx 24 miles away) and there are pleasant drives across the moors and valleys in every direction.
