An ancient priory awarded Grade II status by English Heritage, Priory Manor is a Gothic mansion built in 1869 for William Carver who was a Manchester cotton mill owner. It offers guests the opportunity of experiencing some of Lakeland’s true heritage whilst sampling luxurious and unique accommodation. The Gothic front doors open into the reception room and from here you will see the grand staircase, home to ’The Ladies of Priory Manor’. Many Gothic characteristics remain including the tower where there is almost a 360° view of the surrounding area, the amazing porch and a host of gargoyles but tear yourself away from the building itself and be mesmerized by the views of Lake Windermere, simply breathtaking at any time of the year and to be enjoyed from most rooms in the house.
Shared access is available to the lake shore where you can picnic, paddle or launch a canoe or small boat whilst taking in the sites of majestic Windermere and her surrounding fell range.
The styling here at Priory Manor is exquisite, a beautiful, eclectic mix of ancient and modern with a little quirkiness thrown in for good measure. There are six magnificent stained glass windows depicting Peace, Love, Hope, Faith, Charity and Industry and William Carver’s initials form part of the pattern in each one suggesting that these words had a deep meaning to him. Lavish drapes, Designer Guild soft furnishings and glorious wall coverings marry perfectly with heritage bathrooms, a handmade kitchen original woodwork and stained glass resulting in a glorious home, perfect for a romantic getaway with your loved one or for that special break with friends. And the piece de resistance, take the stone steps to the first landing of the tower where you will find an impromptu bar area so why not pour yourself a g&t, pull up a stool and soak up all that Priory Manor has to offer?
