The Old Vicarage is a stunning Lakeland home situated in one of the most picturesque and unspoilt parts of the Lake District National Park. Famous for its connection to Beatrix Potter the property is an ideal location to discover the western shore of Lake Windermere. The quaint hamlets of Near & Far Sawrey are directly on your doorstep as well as the popular village of Hawkshead a few minutes drive away. Many activities can be undertaken directly from the property including fantastic walks, mountain bike routes and other outdoor pursuits.
The Space:
A substantial 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom property taking up the whole of the ground floor of this substantial lakeland home. Surrounded by private gardens and enjoying simply wonderful Lakeland Views over rolling countryside with fields and woodland guiding the eye to the higher Coniston mountain range beyond.
With its own private entrance the property has a contemporary layout ideally suited to both families and groups of friends. A spacious entrance hall with ornate quarry tiles leads into the most beautiful open plan kitchen dining space with hues of blues, greens and grey. A contemporary kitchen features everything to make a light breakfast or gourmet meal whether perching at the informal island seating or the restored refectory table. Rich Herringbone parquet flooring is laid throughout the ground floor spaces.
Off the open plan space lies each of the properties individual designed bedrooms each inspired by boutique, rich colour palettes that could easily be featured on the front cover of vogue living. All bedrooms have their own en-suite, two with showers and the master with a stunning brass bath. The third bedroom also has its own private hall so the bathroom can be used as the family bathroom for the property. Two bedrooms have king size beds and the third has a Superking that can also be two singles.
The gorgeous lounge with rich harris tweed fabrics, dramatic bold curtains and cosy log burning fire leads out to a large private terrace perfect for morning coffee or sunset drinks looking out to the fabulous landscapes that surround the property.
Guest Access:
Guests have use of the whole property throughout their stay with parking for two cars as well as a private sloped garden and spacious terrace.
The Neighborhood:
Located in the hamlet of Far Sawrey, walks and outdoor pursuit are in abundance from the doorstep. The cuckoo brow inn is located less than 5 minutes from the property and has a wide range of cask ales, extensive wine list and quality home cooked food. The village of Hawkshead is a less than ten minute drive away with convenience store, bars, restaurants and the world famous Hawkshead Relish. This is also the entrance to Grizedale Forest whereby there is some incredible mountain bike tracks and forest trails.
Hawskhead and the surrounding area is famous for the inspiration of the Author Beatrix Potter, her farm hill top is within easy walking distance as well as the tower bank arms, a famous watering hole for the author. Much of the land surrounding Far Sawrey was purchased by Beatrix in order to protect the local farming communities and the nature that inspired so many of her books. This was later donated to the National Trust who now look after the land in her honour.
The neighbouring towns of Ambleside & Windermere are also a short drive away, and offer a great collection of Artisan Shops and restaurants.
Getting Around:
The property lies in a rural location so travelling by car is probably easier. However the Car ferry is only a few minutes away to access the popular town of Bowness-on-Windermere, there is also a fabulous walk to claife viewing station whereby you can catch the ferry as a foot passenger. In the summer Windermere Lake Cruises offer a passenger service from Low Wray to either Ambleside or Windermere.

In an uncertain world we want to be as honest and reasonable regarding your booking with us and put a simple mechanism in place should you not be able to enjoy your trip to the Lake District. Should a local lockdown in the Lake District or another national lockdown occur meaning you are unable to visit, a date change will be offered in the first instance followed by a full refund if not possible.
Should the Lake District remain 'officially open' but you are unable to travel due to local restrictions in your area, following cancellation we will release the property for resale and refund any monies earned for the new reservation to you directly.

We live off site but are available 24/7 should you need anything during your stay at all.
Located in Ambleside, this apartment is in a rural area and in the mountains. Windermere Ferry and Windermere Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Lake District National Park and Arnside and Silverdale. Raw War Paintball and Holehird Gardens are also worth visiting.
