Wander down to the local shops just along the road or take a picnic to share with the ducks in nearby Whitworth Park. Set out along the footpaths for an afternoon exploring the beautiful Derwent Valley. Darley Dale lays claim to be one of the longest villages in England, running for 4 miles along the beautiful River Derwent from the wonderful town of Matlock to the peaceful village of Rowsley. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Wye and Derwent, it is home to the UK’s only native population of rainbow trout.
Close by you will find Matlock Bath, a historic thriving tourist destination dating back to Victorian times when the railway reached the town and visitors used to come to take the ‘mild water cure’ in the many spa hotels. It still is very much on the tourist map today, being the ideal place from which to explore the many local attractions but also a place that really ‘lives’, with independent shops, a couple of supermarkets and Dale Road with its numerous pubs, cafés and restaurants.
Bakewell is just a few minutes’ drive away, so are all Derbyshire’s other holiday attractions including Cromford Mill, Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Museum and Cauldwell’s Mill. Local to Two Dales there is Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, Peak Rail’s steam trains and Matlock Bath has many attractions too.
