As well as the high street shops, a must is a visit to Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura and the Robert Burns Mausoleum, Scotland’s most famous poet spent the last years of his life in Dumfries. Not far from the town is Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wildlife reserve which will keep you busy all day, no matter what time of year.
