The Neighbourhood:
Anstruther is a charming fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife, popular with day-trippers and holidaymakers. Located south of St Andrews, Anstruther is the largest in a string of pretty, old-fashioned fishing villages along the stretch of Fife coast known as the East Neuk. Perhaps the top attraction is simply tucking into a quality fish supper from the Anstruther Fish Bar, which in recent years has won a number of awards including UK Fish and Chip Shop of the year. Enjoy the locally caught fish by the harbour as fishing boats land their catch. Look out for puffins, seals and other wildlife on a boat trip to the Isle of May, which run from May through to September. Back on dry land, another attraction is the fascinating Scottish Fisheries Museum.
Getting Around:
The is a good bus service from Anstruther to St Andrews however it takes two hours by bus to get to Edinburgh. The train goes from just outside St Andrews and is a good service. A car is not essential but if you'd like to go to other villages and interesting sites just outside the village a car is recommended Everything in Anstruther is within walking distance.
