Nestled in the pretty village of Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, is this delightful two-bedroom cottage, Reading Room Cottage. Steeped in history, the cottage sits in a quiet lane close to the River Wye. Enjoying a superb location within the Wye Valley AONB with easy access to The Royal Forest of Dean, Reading Room Cottage is a fabulous dwelling for couples or a family of three. An off-road parking space greets you upon arrival, where you can unload your bags with ease before entering your new holiday home. Step into the porch where you can discard any coats and shoes, before making your way into the welcoming sitting room, featuring plush seating, a Smart TV and a gas fire, it is the perfect space to return to after a day of exploring. Impress your loved ones with delicious meals, prepared in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, with handy dishwasher and washing machine, ready to enjoy at the dining table for four over a bottle of wine. On warmer days, why not savour your meal out in the rear, enclosed garden as you enjoy the last of the day’s sun? A babbling brook runs past the bottom of the garden and creates a peaceful backdrop. Climb the stairs up to the first floor, where you can wash away the day with a refreshing shower, before choosing from one of two well-appointed bedrooms, a king-size and a single, both with plenty of storage for your belongings. Explore your surroundings, where right on your doorstep you will find the welcoming Forge Hammer and River Spice, serving tasty Indian cuisine with a takeaway option also, ideal for when you fancy a break from the kitchen. Within the village you can also picnic in Lower Lydbrook Park, stroll along the River Wye, and the many scenic footpaths which run from the cottage, stock up on essentials at the convenience store, or sample the local fish and chips. The cottage, and the area, is rich in history and offers a fascinating insight into our industrial past. Venture into the Wye Valley AONB where you can enjoy unspoilt walking and cycling trails, whether you’re hiking up Coppett Hill for exceptional views, explore the remarkable Goodrich Castle, following the Ross on Wye River Walk, or hooking your catch of the day at the Upper Hill Court Fishery, there is something for everyone! Head to Ross on Wye, where you can treat your loved ones to a tasty meal at one of the many delightful eateries, including Man of Ross, Leonards at 39 or the Kings Arms, wander through the Thomas Blake Memorial Garden, catch a live performance at The Phoenix Theatre or peruse the local art at Made in Ross. Be sure to visit Symonds Yat, where you can spot the local wildlife at the nature reserves of Miners Rest and White Rocks or climb the renowned Symonds Yat Rock which offers breath-taking views at its top. Continue onto the Forest of Dean, where a plethora of activity awaits, including cycling, caving, kayaking and watersports on the River Wye, crafts, guided tours, archery and food and drink experiences.
