Our cottage has been recently renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated in a distinctly English country house style. The far-reaching views to be seen from every window inspired the poetess, Francis Horowitz, who lived in the cottage in the 1980s.
There are some lovely walks from the door, particularly to Garway Hill, said to be the most beautiful place in Herefordshire, offering stunning views over 5 surrounding counties. The cottage is also ideally placed for you to experience canoeing along the Wye River, swimming in the River Monnow, or hiking on Offa’s Dyke or The Three Castles Way. Horse-riding, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing and caving are all within easy reach in the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The cottage is also close to the Forest of Dean with its cycling paths, picnic sites, Sculpture Trail and family attractions such as Go Ape. A 20-minute drive away is the cathedral city of Hereford, and the market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, which host a variety of quality restaurants and independent shops. For sightseeing, memorable days out can be had at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the Roman Caerleon, and Goodrich, Raglan or Eastnor Castles. Golf is possible at Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, and racing found at Chepstow and Cheltenham. The famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is reached after a beautiful drive through The Golden Valley.
After a busy day exploring all that Herefordshire has to offer, enjoy an evening dining in the garden, watching the sun set over the glorious countryside. On the cottage’s ground floor, beyond the entrance porch, you will find the kitchen, with its beautiful wooden work surfaces, food preparation island, and the easy-to-use, hard-to-beat electric Everhot cooker. The kitchen is well equipped for making casseroles, cakes, and tray bakes. The open-plan dining room is the perfect space for enjoying meals with family and friends around the large farmhouse-style table. There are two steps up into the living room with its large, comfy sofas, the wood burner and a smart TV. If you want to get away from the television there is another living space in the glorious sunroom, which has folding glass doors leading out onto the south-facing front patio. There is a ground-floor toilet and a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. On the first floor you will find three bedrooms, one with a large spring pocketed super king-size bed, and the other two with twin beds. The bathroom has the best views from the cottage and has a stand alone roll-top bath, shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet. Off-road parking for up to three cars is available in the gravel yard opposite the cottage, just across the road, where there are also some fruit trees.
There is a pub just under a mile away, and a village shop and post office just under 2 miles away. The house is easily accessible from the M50, with Bristol or Cardiff only an hour away.
The cottage can accommodate six adults, plus a cot is available for a child under three years old. Booking is for a minimum of three nights. There is a 30% discount for a 7 night booking for most of the year.
