The Stables is a fantastically appointed property located in the small village of Crimplesham and ideally placed for all that Norfolk has to offer. The history of this wonderful house dates back to 1881 when it was first commissioned as the stable block to serve Crimplesham Hall. The house and the stable block were designed by world renowned architect Alfred Waterhouse who in the same year completed his other project… The Natural History Museum!
The property is ideal for groups of friends and families with its ground floor wet room, large enclosed outdoor space and its fabulous games room accessed from behind a hidden door disguised as a bookshelf. The property sleeps up to 11 guests in 5 bedrooms including 4 kids bunks in their specially designed bedroom.
Walking in through the front door, guests are presented with a double height ceiling and large staircase. The lobby area which has ample storage space for shoes, wellies and coats leads off to the kitchen on one side and the dining room on the other. The kitchen is perfectly equipped for guests to cook up a feast for the family which everyone can enjoy seated around the large dining room table. The kids and adults alike will have great fun in the games room accessed by the secret door in the dining room. The games room comes complete with a pool table which can be converted to a table tennis table and a games console, DVD player and TV.
Tucked away towards the back of the house can be found the large living room with characterful fireplace which can be lit to keep guests cosy in the autumn and winter months. Guests will certainly enjoy the contemporary decor and recent refurbishment which has been undertaken at The Stables.
All of the bedrooms can be found up the stairs: The master bedroom is tastefully decorated with in-built wardrobes and a double bed. Of the other double bedrooms, one is en-suite while the other comes with wood-panelled walls and exposed floorboards which makes for a luxury stay. The fourth bedroom has two bunks which kids will love and is accessed via a 'Diagon Alley' inspired passageway while the fifth bedroom is home to a single bed set in a cast iron bed frame. The luxurious family bathroom can also be found upstairs with its traditional-style furniture of a roll top bath, pedestal sink and spacious walk-in shower.
Outside, the south-facing garden is completely enclosed which is ideal for families with younger children and the garden furniture means that BBQs and outdoor dining can be enjoyed for sociable evenings in the warmer months of the year.
The Stables is perfectly located for all of Norfolk's activities and attractions. Downham Market is on the doorstep which has a variety of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Downham Market is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns, dating back to Saxon times. The town retains a really intimate feel, characterised by many fine historic buildings, craft and collectibles markets – with a bustling market on many Fridays and Saturdays along with its unique black and white clock in the town square. Over the past few decades, Downham Market has grown from being a quiet market town to a busy town with supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and plenty of independent shops.
Nearby Ely is another historic town with an amazing cathedral, historic architecture, boat trips, antique shops, restaurants and cafés. In addition it also has a small trading estate (Ely Leisure village) that includes a Cineworld Cinema, Costa and several franchise restaurants.
During the summer it doesn’t take that long to head North to the coast and enjoy the renown sandy beaches of North Norfolk such as Hunstanton, Holt and Cromer.
The Stables is the perfect base to explore the great outdoors - guests can discover the Fen Rivers Way footpath, take a round of golf at a nearby course or enjoy the surrounding angling sites. Take a stroll through the surrounding countryside or enjoy a bite to eat at a riverside pub and watch the boats go by!
Please note The Stables does not provide towels and guests are advised to bring their own.
