It's hard to imagine a more relaxing countryside getaway than this Grade II listed flint cottage, perched peacefully alongside the River Glaven in the peaceful Norfolk village of Letheringsett. The unique and stylish three bedroom cottage dates back to 1870 and effortlessly fuses character with contemporary flair and is very much what you want it to be; a romantic love nest for two, a small family retreat or a little bolthole for a small group of friends looking for a quality property to enjoy a break away together.
Nestled in a highly discreet and private location within a prestigious gated development, Glaven Cottage is tucked away at the rear of The Maltings development which dates back to the 17th century and once was the old Letheringsett Brewery Mill. A great base for enjoying easy access to both coastal and rural North Norfolk, it offers the opportunity to totally relax, kick back and take in the North Norfolk air. Just a short drive from the North Norfolk coast with its plethora of sandy beaches and the bustling Georgian market town of Holt, this property pretty much ticks all the boxes.
With a wealth of period charm throughout; you'll just love the beautiful oak floors and doors, ornate and highly decorative original windows, exposed beams, feature fireplaces and vaulted ceilings. Undoubtedly the garden is a real feature of the cottage, with its paved sun terrace and lawn from where you can sit and enjoy picturesque riverside views and a picnic overlooking the babbling stream.
Glaven Cottage is just a two minute walk to a very good pub/restaurant, meaning you don't need to cook if you don't want to and you'll also find some great cafes and eateries in nearby Holt.
Standing on the banks of the Glaven Valley and listed in 'Hidden Places of East Anglia' as "A truly charming place in the most delightful of settings", Letheringsett is famous for its working mill which is the last remaining fully-working watermill in Norfolk and is open to the public.
The village boasts the renowned pub, The King’s Head which serves good food and has barbecues during the summer months.
There is the ever-popular Back To The Garden deli/café/farm shop where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast or lunch before heading out for the day.
The cottage has electric underfloor heating on the ground floor and modern electric heating throughout Ground Floor: Entrance hall/garden room A very attractive entrance into the property with stable door and french doors to the garden. Seating for two making this a perfect place to relax with a book. Door to utility cupboard which houses the washer/dryer. Cloakroom With WC and wash basin. Dining kitchen A light and bright room with period feature window with views to the garden and river. Hand-built painted 'shaker-style' kitchen with fitted modern appliances including electric oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Oak table with seating for six. Sitting room Large sofa and two armchairs and small coffee table, all set around the wood burning stove and television with DVD player. This dual aspect room has views to the side and rear. There is also access outside via what was once the front door. First Floor: Bedroom one This beautifully romantic bedroom with its vaulted ceiling and beams has a king-size bed. The room provides views from three windows to the garden and river. Bedroom two With lovely views over the garden and river, this beautifully stylish bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and beams. En-suite shower room Features a walk-in shower, wash basin and WC. Bedroom three A very pretty single room overlooking the garden. Bathroom A modern suite with bath and shower attachment, wash basin and WC serving bedrooms one and three. Outside: The garden is a wonderful feature of the property and is a great place to spend a quiet afternoon or evening just relaxing or rustling up a barbecue. The lawned garden wraps itself around the rear and side of the cottage and provides river frontage. However, it is not fully enclosed and therefore not safe for little ones to play unsupervised. The owners are unable to take responsibility for this. There is a right of way at the back of the property out of the development, directly onto the road which makes it ideal if you are walking up to Holt. There is some noise from the road but this shouldn't detract from your enjoyment of the property. Parking is available to the front of the development (two spaces) although there is more parking possible in the access road which leads down to the King's Head pub/restaurant. Additional Information: Please note that the proximity to the river may not be appropriate or safe for young children. Sorry, no pets.
