The historic town of Market Weighton is only 2 miles away with independent shops, a supermarket and a range of pubs and restaurants. The olde world Goodmanham Arms is a delightful pub, with its own brewery, situated in the village of Goodmanham and is a picturesque walk from The Old Church through the old Londsborough Deer Park (apparently where Henry VIII used to hunt). A little further you will find Pocklington, a characterful market town, with a weekly market and a further choice of shops, delicatessens, and restaurants.This market town is perhaps best known for Burnby Hall Gardens where you will find eight acres of beautiful gardens with two large lakes, home to the National Collection of water lilies. Nearby is the old Pocklington canal, ideal for nature walks and bird watching. The Old Church is only half a mile from The Yorkshire Wolds Way long distance footpath, linking with The Chalklands Way, The Minster Way and many other countryside paths passing through glorious Yorkshire Wolds scenery. The cathedral city of York is a 30 minute drive away.York boasts the imposing York Minster, York Castle Museum, Clifford’s Tower, National Railway Museum, and the immersive Jorvic Viking Centre where a replica of a Viking village has been created, including smells and sounds.
