Flat 1, The Literary Institute is an attractive, two bedroom, first floor apartment occupied over two floors, full of character and sits in the heart of the bustling village of Reeth in Swaledale. The flat has been well appointed, and with the addition of modern conveniences makes it a very comfortable holiday home especially as it is a stone’s throw from the pubs, restaurant, cafes and other village amenities.
The flat is on the first floor and boasts fabulous views from the main living area through large sash windows over the village green and beyond to Fremington Edge. You’ll be surprised how spacious, light and airy this holiday home is – yet is extremely cosy and homely.
Access to the flat is via a communal staircase shared with only one other flat. As you enter there is a good size hallway with plenty of space for shoes, boots and coats. There are two doors leading to the large, open plan living, dining and kitchen. Although all in one area the L shape makes the room very spacious and helps to separate the living and dining area. Parking is on a first come first served basis, there is usually a parking space available in front of the flat and also parking on the village green.
The double bedroom is at the rear of the first floor of the flat with a couple of steps leading to it. The single bedroom is on the ground floor next to the family bathroom with shower over. Opposite the bathroom is an additional exit to the shared court yard and secure bike storage racks. There is also access from the street to the rear of the flat and the bike storage so there is no need to bring the bikes through the flat.
This holiday accommodation is ideal for those looking to explore Swaledale by foot or by bike. There are numerous walks straight from the door such as the more challenging hikes up Fremington Edge, Calver Hill and Harkerside or the easier strolls down by the River Swale. Reeth and surrounding areas have now grown in popularity for both mountain biking and road cycling. Again, there are so many routes to choose you will certainly fill your days up easily!
If you wish to explore further afield then simply pop in your car and enjoy the scenic drives up and down dale to the many picturesque villages. Explore the famous spots such as the water splash featured on All Creatures Great and Small, the infamous Buttertubs – which became well known from the Stage 1 of the Tour de France in 2014. Or, why not take a short drive up to the highest pub in England – Tan Hill – the views are incredible and the beer isn’t bad either!
There are also several market towns in the area, such as Leyburn and Hawes both within 30 minutes’ drive from Reeth. Then 30 minutes in the opposite direction is the Georgian town of Richmond, with several attractions worth visiting such as the impressive castle, the waterfalls, the museum, Georgian theatre and The Station full of artisan products, ice cream parlour, cafe and a cinema.
Located in Richmond, this apartment is in a rural area. Catterick Golf Club and The Garage Spa are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit Millgate House Garden and Luke Searle Golf Simulator. The Forbidden Corner and Raydale Preserves are also worth visiting. Be sure not to miss outdoor adventures like hiking and cycling.
