Howick Hall Gardens are nearby and well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias in the spring. A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway and famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must, and not forgetting the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the wide sandy beach. Alnwick Castle and Gardens, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall, are 4 miles away, and walking, sandy beaches, fishing, golf, surfing and cycling are close by. A former retreat run by nuns, The Old Mill (ref 25579) is ideal for families and groups of friends, with plenty of quirky living space both inside and outside making it a cosy retreat, with logs for the open fires and wood burners included.
