Saundersfoot is a quaint harbour village built around an award-winning Blue Flag beach within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Cockle Bay House is located in a central yet quiet location within the village, at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac bordered by trees. You’ll be a ten-minute walk to the beach, harbour and amenities, and the footpath starts right outside the house.
The beach is southeast facing, which means it benefits from beautiful sunrises and calm waters perfect for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking adventures. Boat trips run from the harbour over the summer for fishing, spotting wildlife and exploring the coast.
In the village you’ll find plenty of choice for places to eat. There are restaurants and pubs, top-quality local fish and chips, seafood restaurants and a local brewery’s tap room also serving food.
Along the seafront is an accessible tarmacked walkway and cycle path between coves, which is perfect for easy and safe cycling. It passes through the cliffs at various points, through old mining tunnels that were used to move coal. A further ten-minute walk from Saundersfoot harbour takes you through one of these tunnels and out into the next bay – Coppet Hall – which has a café and toilets and is equally lovely. Here you’ll also find Coast, one of Pembrokeshire’s top fine-dining restaurants which has incredible views out across Carmarthen Bay as well as a stunning menu and wine list.
Outside of the village itself, some of Pembrokeshire’s best beauty spots are close by, with the popular walled town of Tenby less than 15 minutes away by car or bus, where you can enjoy plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs, boat trips and watersports as well as three stunning, lifeguarded Blue Flag beaches.
The whole of south Pembrokeshire’s award-winning coastline is within easy reach from Saundersfoot, with places like Manorbier, Stackpole Quay and Barafundle Bay – repeatedly voted one of the best beaches in the world – within a 30-minute drive from Cockle Bay House.
Inland, the beautiful Daugleddau Estuary provides ample opportunities for a lovely walk, day out at Carew Castle or a waterside pint in some of the gorgeous riverside pubs dotted along its banks, or you could explore from the water on a kayaking or canoeing expedition led by experienced guides.
For young families, the very popular Folly Farm is only a few miles away, where you can spend an exciting day visiting exotic animals or witnessing the day-to-day life of farm animals in the barn, as well as have fun in the fairground and play areas. Nearby Manor Wildlife Park has a similar offering.
