There is also Oakham signal box, which became famous as the template for Airfix and Dapol for their model railway signal boxes, and is one of a few signal boxes on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, which is in daily use to this day.
The Rutland Water cycle path is easily accessible from the property and is only 1 mile away. Rutland Water has many activities for everyone to enjoy, including sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, boat trips, crazy golf, an 18-hole golf course and fishing, or even just walking. It is a haven for birdwatchers and lovers of wildlife, with the Rutland Osprey Project at Lyndon Nature Reserve, and Rutland Water Nature Reserve at Egleton close by. Also within easy reach are the market towns of Uppingham, Stamford and Melton Mowbray, made famous for the pork pie. Other places of interest within a short driving distance are Barnsdale Gardens, Burghley House and Rockingham Castle, as well as the the larger towns and cities of Leicester, Peterborough and Market Harborough.
