Summary:
This beautiful white-washed cottage offers an authentic taste of Cornish life: sip your morning tea to views of rolling hills, wander down cobbled streets into Mevagissey harbour or hunker down on stormy evenings with a roaring fire. With space for six guests to spread out and relax, enjoy the magic of coastal living in this peaceful pocket of the world. Free parking is provided for you at The Willows Car Park, around 5 minutes walk from the cottage.
The Space:
Just a short walk from the harbour, there’s a refreshing quality to this cottage. It strikes the perfect balance of old and new, with characterful beams and stone fireplaces alongside colourful coastal furnishings. After busy days exploring the nearby beaches, enjoy the last of the sun out on the terrace with your favourite drink to hand or sink into the sofas whilst dinner bubbles away on the stove. Pick up the day’s fresh catch from down at the harbour and prepare a feast back home. There’s everything you need and more to cook, from an electric oven and stove to a microwave and ample utensils.
Three bedrooms sleep six guests comfortably. On the first floor, find the master bedroom which boasts a king-size bed as well as storage space and a TV for those long, lazy lie-ins. On the second floor is a further double bedroom as well as an additional twin room. The family bathroom has a luxurious walk-in waterfall shower and toilet. With private parking space reserved at a nearby carpark, this is a lovely family cottage to enjoy a dose of seaside goodness.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole house and sun terrace.
The Neighborhood:
This charming Cornish cottage is located in the backstreets of Mevagissey, a historic harbour village with lots to explore. It's an easy walk down from the house to the water's edge, where you can pick up the day's catch or a pint of local ale. There are plenty of brilliant restaurants and pubs, often with live music in the summer months. Try The Fountain Inn, The Ship Inn, Harbour Tavern or The Sharksfin. For dinner, enjoy fresh fish and chips or dine in at our favourite restaurants, Salamanders, Alvorada or The Kingswood in London Apprentice, which is just a short drive from the village. Kids will love crabbing off the harbour wall or visiting the free local aquarium, which is run as a charity project to raise awareness of the fishing industry. The Mevagissey Passenger Ferry can be picked up from Lighthouse Quay and takes you over to Fowey, a stunning harbour town on the Roseland Peninsular (there is a regatta every summer).
There is so much to enjoy in the area around Mevagissey too. Walk around the coastline to the pretty cove of Portmellon where you can hire paddleboards and kayaks or just sit with locals at The Rising Sun - we particularly love it at sunset. Continue walking round to the stunning Vault Beach, which is often empty even during the summer months, or onto Goran Haven. Carhaeys Estate is a real spectacle with its historic garden and impressive gardens - although do check its open times as they are sporadic throughout the year. Its beach is another off-the-beaten-track favourite and there are a number of great events that run throughout summer just outside the beach hut, from movie nights to live music. In the winter months, grab a hot chocolate and enjoy a stroll along the water's edge.
About a ten minute drive out of town is The Lost Gardens of Heligan, which once stood lost to the brambles. Having been re-discovered after WW2, it now boasts some of the prettiest gardens in Cornwall as well as a fantastic farm shop and events calendar. You can view more of our local tips and tricks in our guest guide, which you will receive upon booking.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. You will not need it to venture into Mevagissey, however it will be useful for exploring the surrounding area. There is a dedicated space for the cottage at Willow Car Park, around 5 minutes walk away. Willow Car Park also provides electric charging points and they now have a rapid charger and free parking.
Other Things to Note:
The property is located on a steep hill and also over 3 levels and therefore may be unsuitable for those persons with limited mobility.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
