Town: Barnard Castle, a market town in County Durham's bucolic Teesdale, is a great example of this. It occupies the spot of a former Roman fort that once spanned the river. Overlooking the river, the castle's mediaeval ruins are impressive. Cobble streets, yards, and back roads have been a feature of this town since its original layout in the 12th century, when it earned the endearing nickname "Barney" from locals and tourists alike. The Bowes Museum is conveniently located, and a day spent exploring the museum's stunning structure and engaging displays would be well spent. This charming market town is conveniently located near some of the best hiking and biking terrain in the country, including the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the River Tees, and the beautiful waterfalls at High Force.
Located in Barnard Castle, this vacation home is in a rural area. The Garage Spa and Heritage Park Stadium are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit Eggleston Hall and Walworth Castle Birds of Prey. Sweet Greetings and Millgate House Garden are also worth visiting. Break out the clubs and hit the links with a golf course nearby, or seek out an adventure with hiking and cycling.
