The Thatches, Highcliffe

New Forest. Sleeps up to 6

New for 2023

The Thatches comprises two separate thatched cottages, Old School Cottage and Little Meggs, to accommodate overall six guests and two dogs. Originally the village school in Victorian times, Old School Cottage is a cosy, characterful Grade 2 listed cob and thatch semi-detached cottage positioned just behind Little Meggs, a detached cute cottage for two. Both are quietly situated in attractive gardens within the local Chewton Common conservation area in Highcliffe and just a 15 minute stroll via a woodland footpath takes you to the sea and sandy beach, making them perfectly positioned for a relaxing holiday by the sea. The New Forest National Park, with its free roaming ponies, donkeys and cattle is just a short drive or cycle away.

The coastal town of Highcliffe has an array of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants found along the bustling high street. The popular Paddle café is a short walk away, as is the Cliffhanger Restaurant near the sea front, both dog-friendly and well worth a visit.

Highcliffe beach is popular with families and surfers alike and can be reached along a wooded footpath following a stream through Chewton Bunny nature reserve. Once on the beach you can follow the south coastal path leading right around Christchurch Bay and beyond. Highcliffe beach, Friars Cliff beach and Avon beach have all recently been awarded blue flag status and been given a seaside award which means they are among the best beaches in the UK. Enjoy crabbing at bustling Mudeford Quay and the stunning landscapes of Hengistbury Head, along with the New Forest National Park, Highcliffe Castle and Christchurch which are all just a short drive or cycle away.

Please note: The owner’s cottage is next to Old School Cottage and on occasion may be inhabited. Due to the age of the cottages there are areas with low level beams.
