Tucked away on the gently sloping foothills of the beautiful Black Mountains is a pretty and comfortable 17th century stone barn conversion. The barn itself offers plenty of character with lots of exposed beams, a roll-top bath and a beautiful Rayburn. The views too, are spectacular, but it is the outside space here that sets this little cottage apart. Maggie's Barn boasts a large, lawned garden, woodland walks through the private arboretum and a large lake. Remote, save for the owner's house next door, the setting offers wonderful wildlife, flora and fauna and there are miles of superb riding and walking straight from the door.
If anyone is wanting a bit of extra accommodation here at Maggies Barn there are two new, absolutely delightful glamping cabins Sylvie's Shepherds Hut and Bill's Shepherds Hut in a private wild flower meadow with the most glorious views.

The attractive and comfortable Maggie's Barn offers an open plan kitchen and living area, with an oil fired Rayburn cooker, microwave, dining table and chairs, a comfortable new sofa bed and a wall-mounted digital TV/DVD combi with freeview. This room leads to a sunny and spacious conservatory with comfortable sofas and chairs and great views out towards the arboretum. There is a utility room with sink, fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Useful information
Maggie's Barn boasts many lovely features. You'll enjoy breakfast in the sunny conservatory, the underfloor heating and welcoming Rayburn will ensure that you are always cosy, whilst the attractive roll-top bath, tasteful decor and the spectacular oak gallery to one of the two double bedrooms adds a bit of luxury. The windows offer lovely views towards Talgarth and the rolling Radnor hills in one direction, and the magnificent Brecon Beacons in the other.
Situated at the foothills of the beautiful Black Mountains and set within a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) on the common above Talgarth, Maggie's Barn is blessed with attractive and interesting surroundings. The remote location offers wonderful walking straight from the door. Follow in the footsteps of the workmen of Talgarth who, a century ago carved a footpath in the Black Mountains on their daily journeys to hew a new reservoir high in the mountains. A couple of miles across the common, where Red Kite soar above and sheep and wild ponies graze, is the ancient Llanilieu Church and the small market town of Talgarth.
Discover Talgarth
The small market town of Talgarth is situated just 2.5 miles away from Maggie's Barn. The area is rich with history and there has been a settlement on this site for at least 5000 years - the 13th century Peel Tower and 14th century Parish church are well worth a visit. Take a stroll just outside of the town centre and you'll find ancient woodland along the banks of the River Ennig. There are a series of waterfalls within the wood, the largest being Pwll-y-wrach or 'Witches Pool'. Local legend suggests that witches were ducked in this pool in medieval times. The woodland has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its special habitat values and the existence of some quite rare plants including the Lesser butterfly-orchid. The area is also home to a thriving colony of rare bats and dormice.
On a more practical note, Talgarth has a small supermarket, local chemist and an exceptionally good local butcher, many visitors order meat to take home at the end of their stay. There are also several good pubs and restaurants in the area.
Numerous outdoor activities and places to visit
Located just 10 miles from Hay-on-Wye and 12 miles from Crickhowell, Maggie's Barn is excellently placed to offer a huge number of outdoor activities all based locally. Walk straight from the house onto the Black Mountains or over toward the Brecon Beacons. There is fantastic canoeing on the River Wye or Usk and hang gliding on nearby Hay Bluff; as well as a superb gliding centre in Talgarth itself. Pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting, fishing and more advanced riding can all be arranged locally.
The large lake within the grounds of Maggie's Barn is very attractive, offering the chance to watch all sorts of wildlife. Speak to the owners to arrange fly fishing casting instruction during your stay.
