The nearest shops are in Talgarth, a small market town in this farming community on the edge of the Black Mountains. An excellent Bakery attached to Talgarth Mill where the flour is milled for the bread. There is a cafe where you can enjoy some great food. A locally renown Butcher Shop where Mr. George can tell where every piece of locally sourced meat has come from and produces award winning meats and sausages. There is also a very good delicatessen, a small Spa supermarket and several local pubs.
The mountain bike trails and the walks above Talgarth are spectacular up on the wild Rhos Fach Common with the grazing sheep and ponies, Pwll yr Wrach Woodland walks and Nature Reserve - all on the outskirts of the village. Llanilieu Church with its 14th century medieval rood screen is well worth a visit. Walking up onto the mountain above the village is a very quiet and peaceful route onto the hills.
For the adventurous why not try Gliding at the nearby Gliding Club - and fly with the Red Kites as they soar over the area. The historic Book Town of Hay-on-Wye is 20 minutes' drive where there are again excellent places to eat after browsing the book shops.
