The Olchon Valley cottage is located in Longtown, Herefordshire, in the heart of England. It sleeps 6 people and features an open fire. Situated on the Herefordshire/Welsh border within the Black Mountains on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the area is a special scientific interest with a variety of birds, plants, and animals. There is no light pollution, making it ideal for stargazing. Visitors can explore the Black Mountains, climb onto the Hatterrall Ridge to join the Offa's Dyke Path, visit Hay Bluff and Twmpa, or explore the ruins of Llanthony Priory. Activities such as canoeing, pony trekking, and climbing are available within the park. Market towns like Hay on Wye, Abergavenny, and Crickhowell offer cultural experiences.
The cottage is accessed via a farm track leading into enclosed gardens. Inside, guests are greeted by a historic stone porch with stone shelves for boots and outdoor gear. The traditional kitchen features bespoke wooden cupboards, an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and washing machine. A cozy lounge/diner with large sofas and a wood burner provides a relaxing space to unwind. The dining area offers a large table and chairs for meals, as well as a selection of books and games for entertainment. Upstairs, there are two double rooms, a twin room, and a single room suitable for a child, along with a shower room. The cottage is surrounded by fields and mountains, with its own enclosed south-facing garden for guests to enjoy.
Guests can relax in the garden with wooden furniture, a parasol, and a BBQ provided. Dog owners are reminded to keep their pets under control due to nearby sheep. Ample parking is available. If a cot and highchair are needed, guests must request them at the time of booking. The Olchon Valley cottage offers a peaceful retreat in a stunning natural setting, with opportunities for outdoor activities and cultural exploration in the surrounding area.
