The village consists of a mixture of pretty stone cottages, two village greens, and a river running alongside, making it a popular picnic spot in the summer months. To the north of the village, the view is dominated by Roseberry Topping, a 330 metre high hill. There are a good range of shops, restaurants, pubs and takeaways within 500 metres. Around the village are several interesting walks, with Great Ayton making a great base for walkers wishing to explore the stunning countryside.
