Tucked on the outskirts of Killin, Perthshire, is this fantastic three-bedroom Scandinavian Lodge, Firbush Lodge. Enjoying a wonderful location on the shores of Loch Tay, with Ben Lawers forming a majestic backdrop to the site, this lodge benefits from two off-road parking spaces, a lovely safe front decked area complete with furniture for you to relax and enjoy the commanding views. It’s an ideal place to sit and watch the wildlife, with the possibility of spotting the resident Red Squirrel as he visits from the adjacent woodland. The open-plan living space with its wood panelling and plush couches, fully-equipped kitchen, and large rustic dining table, provide the perfect setting to prepare and enjoy meals as you reflect on your day’s adventures. After your meal take a lovely stroll down to the harbour or end the day with drinks whilst playing a fun board game. The all-electric heating and water system provides ample hot water for the well-appointed bathroom, there are also sumptuous beds where you can drift off to sleep before the next day’s plans begin. Nearby, you will find the welcoming Boathouse Kitchen and Bar with its soothing open fire and delicious menu for when you decide on a night off from cooking. There is also, ‘In Your Element’, an outdoor activity organiser providing some unusual experiences such as axe throwing, gorge walking, river tubing as well as segway and canoe tours. Please note: Seasonal opening and times may change. For your local amenities, head into the village of Killin, where you’ll find a well-stocked Co-op for all your essentials. Killin Golf Club is often described as having the most beautiful 9-hole golf course in Scotland, where you can book and pay for your round with the Scottish golf App. Visit the fascinating Moirlanich Longhouse and dine at the Falls of Dochart Inn which overlook the river rapids. This traditional building was an old blacksmith dating from the 1700’s, a charming stone building retaining many original features. There are wonderful walking and cycling routes around Loch Tay, including the Ben Lawyers Nature Reserve and Ben Lawers itself, which is the highest peak of the ‘Ben Lawers Group’, a ridge that includes six other Munros: Beinn Ghlas, Meall Garbh, Meall Corranaich, An Stuc, Meall Greigh and Meall a Choire Leith. As well as the cycling routes around Loch Tay the local Highland Safaris Team provide ‘Drop at the top and mountain bike hire’ which is a great way to capture stunning scenery without the effort of the uphill climb! Next stop is Aberfeldy, where you will find The Birks of Aberfeldy, a short walk which was popularised in a song by Robert Burns in 1787, the Black Watch Memorial and Castle Menzies which was the seat of the Chiefs of the Clan Menzies for over 500 years and is now a Charitable Trust Visitor Centre and Museum. Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery offers pre-booked tours and experiences. Its mighty copper stills can be seen from the main road. Further afield, you’ll find Pitlochry, home to the Pitlochry and Moulin Heritage Centre, Atholl Palace Museum, and the Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre. Also, the nearby Faskally Wood which hosts the Magical Night Time Light Show ‘The Enchanted Forest’ during the months of September-October, it’s definitely worth a visit.
