Its twin spa town, Buxton, is a short drive and offers a lively arts scene, including the opera house. Ashford in the Water is nearby, offering country pubs and a village shop. Elsewhere are the historical villages of Eyam with its fascinating past and Foolow with its village green and duck pond, just a short drive away.
