Region: The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Town: The Romans were initially drawn to Buxton because of its eight thermal springs, which bubble with blue water at a constant 28 degrees centigrade. The Palladian splendour of modern-day Buxton, however, was commissioned by successive Dukes of Devonshire in the 18th and 19th centuries. This included the majestic semi-circular Crescent, the Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, the Pavilion Gardens, and the Opera House. The Opera House's year-round schedule and annual events in music and the arts continue to draw crowds to these beautiful buildings and gardens. Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale are just a few of the lovely towns and villages strewn around the area, and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking in the nearby harsh peaks to the north and pleasant hills and dales to the south. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, two magnificent mansions, are within driving distance and should not be missed. An ideal location from which to discover the Peak District.
Located in Buxton, this apartment is in a rural area and on a river. Buxton Opera House and Buxton Museum and Art Gallery are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Cavendish Golf Club and Peak Practice Golf Driving Range. Peak Volumes and Chestnut Centre Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park are also worth visiting. Practice your golf swing on a nearby course, or enjoy other activities in the great outdoors, such as hiking and cycling in the area.
