Bumblebee Farm is a beautiful Grade II listed eco farmhouse set in 3 acres of wildlife friendly habitat on the edge of Tywardreath, a thriving little village just a quarter of a mile from the sea and coastal path. It is the home of Brigit Strawbridge, whose dream is to turn it into the UK’s first Wild Bee Sanctuary and Centre of Education for all things wild and wonderful.
We are located 4 miles from Fowey, a gorgeous Cornish seaside town complete with narrow winding streets and tremendous sea views. Fowey offers sailing and boat excursions, literary and food festivals, and a fantastic selection of cafes and restaurants.
We are also only 3 miles from the Eden Project, 11 miles from The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the fishing port of Mevagissey, and just a stone’s throw from the magical and historical Luxulyan Valley. Bumblebee Farm is an ideal place for foodies, gardeners, walkers and nature enthusiasts to base themselves whilst they explore the south coast of Cornwall.
The farmhouse is one of the few houses in Tywardreath that claims to have inspired Daphne du Maurier’s book ‘The House on the Strand’. In fact this part of Cornwall is known as ‘Du Maurier County’. Parts of the building date back to the 12th century and many of the huge granite stones that have been used to extend it over the years have come from the priory that used to be situated in our top paddock before the dissolution of the monasteries in the mid 16th century. The sense of history in both the house and on the land is almost tangible!
Our guest rooms are situated in the most historic part of the farmhouse. Each has its own bathroom and has been decorated and furnished using eco-paints, reclaimed furniture and organic cotton or bamboo bedding. A stay at Bumblebee Farm is guaranteed to make you feel wonderfully relaxed, nurtured and pampered.
To enhance the ‘getting away from it all’ experience we have chosen not to include televisions in the bedrooms. However if you really can’t survive without watching the cup final or your favourite soap, we are very happy for guests to watch the TV in the family room downstairs. Each bedroom has its own Roberts radio and wi-fi connection.
Breakfast: is in the farmhouse kitchen, or can be taken outside in the garden on nice sunny days.
We also offer a number of courses, workshops and events, all designed to help bring people closer to nature and to encourage a healthy, low impact and earth friendly way of living. Check website for details.
