Quietly situated on the edge of a hamlet, and accessed by a private road, this superb, very spacious holiday property enjoys an elevated position with wonderful, far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside towards the Quantock Hills. It forms one half of the entire property (the owners occupy the other half) and stands in beautiful landscaped gardens complete with an outdoor swimming pool (open July and August), shared by the owner and his grandchildren, and private patio with furniture and barbecue. The house offers a spacious living room connected by an archway to a delightful sun room with pitched ceiling and large windows, allowing the superb rural views and magnificent sunsets to be enjoyed to the full. The lower ground floor is reached by a spiral staircase and houses an extra large bedroom with a quarter-sized snooker table. The county town of Taunton is nearby for shopping, restaurants and entertainment, while the Quantock hills are within walking distance and the Blackdown Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor are all a little further, offering superb walking, riding and wildlife. The gardens are a feature of the property at Lyddons Mead, which is well placed for visits to the internationally celebrated gardens at Hestercombe House, which is less than 3 miles away, the initimate garden rooms of Cothay Manor and the other Classic Gardens of Somerset. In addition, the West Somerset Steam Railway runs a regular, daily service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, calling at Watchet and its Harbour, Dunster for Dunster Castle and its grounds, together with various stops along the way. Travelling west from Minehead, there is superb coastal scenery which can be enjoyed from the coastal path, which leads on towards picturesque Porlock with Lynton and Lynmouth a few miles further. Visits can also be made to Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Sands, on the north Somerset coast, all with long stretches of sandy beaches, whilst to the south is the Dorset coast with West Bay - location of the Broadchurch TV series, Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast. Cheddar Gorge with Wookey Hole Caves, Wells and Glastonbury are all within an hours drive as are several National Trust properties, such as Montacute House, Barrington Court, Killerton and Knightshayes, making this a very well situated holiday base.
