Ours is less of a house and more of a home.
A very loved home full of personal touches and individual features, rustic parts, imperfections and homeliness/cosiness. Above all, we strive to provide you with a sparkling clean place that for the days you are with us will make you feel like you’ve lived here forever. Ten years of love and memories have gone into this home and we hope you enjoy sharing our story and becoming part of our family.
We hope and expect you to treat our home as you would your own, use everything you see and find on the shelves and in the cupboards and let us know straight away if there is anything, however small, that you feel will make your stay less than a five star one.
We can't wait to welcome you to our lovely home. It is a large, characterful semi-detached house in a fabulous, calm location just a stone's throw from the town centre of historic Wells, with 4 bedrooms which can sleep 8-10 people, parking for three cars, a modern kitchen, dining room and lounge with wood burning stove and a large and attractive private garden with three beautiful fruit trees, ample outside seating at our garden tables, and a trampoline for the youngsters, or even the young at heart. It is situated just 10-15 mins walk from the beautiful Cathedral at the heart of Wells. There is WIFI, a flat screen TV with DVD, UK and French TV channels and a CD/Bluetooth HIFI system. In the garden, we have two apple trees with delicious produce during the summer, which you're strongly encouraged to use if you're staying at that time of year, and a pear tree to which the same message applies! From the front bedroom, we even have views over the town down to the famous Cathedral, so you can even just sit and take in the town from our hill!
We have two large double bedrooms (one with a King Size bed, 150x200cm; the other with a regular Double Bed, 135x190cm and next to it a Double Sofa Bed, 135x190cm when opened), a second, small double bedroom downstairs with a 'murphy'-style bed that looks like a wardrobe and is pulled down to open it out as a normal-style small Double Bed, 135x190cm. Lastly, we have one single bedroom with a regular Single Bed, 90x190cm.
Wells is the most attractive city in the West of England, and it is little wonder that it is used so frequently as the perfect film set for films and TV series requiring that 'Old England' backdrop, from Poldark to Midsomer Murders to Doctor Who to the movie Hot Fuzz. The quaint and beautiful town centre is packed with markets, eateries, historic architecture and summer attractions as well as parks and, of course, the world famous Cathedral. Our location is also a short drive or bus ride from several other noteworthy towns: Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Frome, Bath and Bristol are all within easy reach and a day trip to Longleat Safari Park, only half an hour away, or an hour's drive to Stone Henge, are both very feasible. For shopaholics, there is a large factory retail centre, Clarks Village, less than half an hour away, but equally there is plenty to do right here on your doorstep, with a great range of museums, parks, shops, supermarkets, bakeries and a bustling market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, all within the confines of this historic city. Once you've reached us, if you choose to, you can leave your car keys at home and explore everything on foot: nothing is far away! And if you are planning a longer trip to the UK, you could do far worse than base yourself here in the heart of Somerset: London is only 2.5 hours away by car or 1.5 hours by train, or turn in the other direction and hit the fabulous beaches of Devon and Cornwall in two hours or less. We have a fuel station and Budgens convenience store including a Post Office at the bottom of our road. Our home is perfect for a large gathering of friends and family, although not suitable for Stag or Hen nights or other more rowdy parties.
Please note: we can only provide linen (towels and sheets) for stays of 7 nights and more. Below this, we kindly ask our guests to bring their own, or we can advise on hiring linen for your stay.
Please note that although cleaning is included in the overall price you will pay for your rental, we assume that cleaning will consist of a maximum of two hours for apartments (four hours for a full house) of cleaning, polishing and disinfecting surfaces, hoovering regular dust and ensuring the bathroom and kitchen are cleaned to a high standard. Where linen is included as part of the rental agreement, cleaning also includes the laundering of linen and towels. We hope that our guests will leave the property in a reasonable state, as they found it, but if our cleaners do encounter a considerable level of extra cleaning work to do, such as unwashed dishes, food or other rubbish such as nappies which have not been disposed of into the outside bins, stains from spilt substances, and so on, we do reserve the right to make an extra cleaning charge per hour of excess cleaning required.
This vacation home is located in Wells. Wells & Mendip Museum and Royal Bath and West Showground are local attractions and those in the mood for shopping can visit Kilver Court and Clarks Village. Traveling with kids? Consider Greenbank Pool and The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Co..
