Venture out from your holiday home on the edge of Brecon to enjoy a 3.5 mile walk along the River Usk to the village of Llanfrynach; drive 4 to 6 miles to the various popular starting points for hiking the main peaks and circular routes of the Brecon Beacons. Or instead begin your walk straight from the door approx 4 miles across country exploring the old Roman Road and historic Drovers route to the starting point for routes to the popular peak of Pen y fan for a good day s hiking suitable for all the family. Follow up with an evening meal at one of several country pubs within striking distance of the town. Stroll into town to the beginning of the tow path of the Brecon to Monmouth Canal or even hire a cruiser boat or canoes there and combine with a picnic or a meal at some worthy eating places along the way. Your chances of seeing the resident kingfisher just meters from the house and, at the right time of year, a leaping salmon are high on this beautiful stretch of the River Usk which borders the historic parkland and water meadows that remain part of this historic rural estate today. Day fishing for this river may be booked through Brecon Town Council or the Wye and Usk Scheme. Spend time at the lake at Llangorse, 6.5 miles away, or take the children to Cantref Adventure Farm, 3.5 miles away.
