This delightful Victorian cottage is situated in the heart of the National Park, nestled amongst the trees at the foot of Buckland Hill. It overlooks the secluded Buckland parklands that gently roll down to the river Usk.

This landscape inspired J.R.R. Tolkien on his visit to the area in the 1940's. He wrote in The Lord of the Rings of 'Buckland', the childhood home of Frodo Baggins, who later returned to Buckland and bought a house in Crickhollow. In the book, Buckland is described as a slither of land between an ancient forest and a river, an apt description of the location of Buckland Cottage.

The cottage has a beautiful veranda where you can sit and watch the sunset over the mountains whilst enjoying a drink or alfresco dining. It was once part of the Buckland Hall Estate and the cottage has been very beautifully renovated with wooden floors, lovely carpets, luxurious beds and good quality fabrics and furnishings. From the cottage there are walks through the forestry tracks up to Buckland Hill and across to Bwlch Common and Llangorse Mountain.

Accommodation:

Sleeps 6/8 in 4 bedrooms-

There is a spacious kitchen-diner with a walk-in larder and a utility room with a large fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, and a tumble dryer. The well equipped kitchen has a classic style with a Rangemaster double electric cooker and five ring hob, dishwasher and ample work and storage space. The dining area seats 8 around the table and also has a comfy seating area with 2 sofas. Like most of the rooms in the house, this room has views across the parkland with its specimen trees.

The sitting room has a large 5 seater corner sofa and footstool as well as 2 other chairs, wood burning stove, TV with Freeview and DVD player with a few DVDs and games for rainy days.

The spacious entrance hallway has real character, with its long table and a set of prints depicting local scenes in different seasons.

Downstairs Bedroom 1: Bedroom with twin beds (can zip and link to become a double bed).

The Downstairs bathroom is next to bedroom 1 with a bath with a shower over, hand basin and toilet.

Up a flight of carpeted stairs past a shelf of reading material to three more bedrooms, all with beautiful views across parkland:

Bedroom 2: The master bedroom with a super king-size bed, 2 seater sofa and adjacent room off containing toilet and hand basin (but also large enough to take a travel cot).

Bedroom 3: Bunk beds (only suitable for children).

Bedroom 4: With super king-size bed, chaise longue and a quirky very low doorway through to a nursery room with two cots and Velux window giving views to the dense woodland of Buckland Hill

Family Bathroom with hand basin, toilet and bath with traditional fittings and handheld shower hose due to the low ceiling in this room.

Outside: to the front of the cottage is the veranda with bench and patiio table and chairs under and on the terrace a large slate topped table with chairs for outside dining. To the side an informal woodland garden with a new tree swing, a tree house that has recently been repaired and a picnic bench.
